BLACKBOB 9
Went out on saturday for a days hunting, got there a bit late (friday nights  ) about midday so decided to do a couple of hours ferreting. No time for nets just bolting for the dogs. The hedges were tight and large warrens so the rabbits just ran arround and had few bolts. The ferret did peg one on the hole. 2pm Decided to walk the woods with dogs and gun, not a stir. Then my 12mth old JR flushed a nice cock pheasent up out of cover, which i gladly obliged as i never seen one in these woods before After another hour and the dogs trailing some scent up flew a woodcock, and that was my feather sorted for the day. Then back to the farm for a cuppa and chat. 4.30pm dilema, forcast cold and dry with a full moon, it had been cloudy most of the day and if the cloud held out we might have some earley lamping time. the decission was to stay so with time to kill we headed for a pub. I new of a pub a couple of miles up the road so headed there. Usual senario on entering the pub open fire in the bar and a handfull of local farmers. As we walked in time stood still for a moment. All heads turned our way and the old boy said "Ahh another pair of f***ing badger diggers then" this broke the ice and they involved us in conversation. A couple of hours in and two of the farmers joind us for a drink, an ideal time to explore permission. Fairplay by 9pm we are back at his farm for a coffee, and talking about the land and quarry upon. Within seconds he has given us he go ahead to hunt his 136 acres of land, all his neighbouring land and produced a copy plan of land and boundries. AWESOME After getting his name and number we headed off for a reccee. Dogs and lamp we were off. I wasnt expecting much as it was still fairley earley but what we saw in the time we had has got me more excited than ive been for a while. Masses of open, flat fields with only sheep in some and lovely tight hedges. There were masses of snipe and woodcock on the ground, and alot of rabbits and we called in three foxes one to about 20yds, but as we didnt have the gear for them we watched them go. We had some coursing with the rabbits and took 4, i also squeeked in a mink, which i have never done or seen one before and didnt realy now what to do with it either so let it go. :search: Bob wanted some super As it had been a long day we headed home 11pm and 2hrs drive Quote Link to post
