squirreltail 15
Right youve got your work cut out with that cross, beautiful cross but very laid back.Start off with basics at home and in your home. If your dogs got a good appetite so much the better.Get something, like a stuffed old sock that it can grab hold of, get your dog in either the kennel or your home where it cant escape away with the old sock. Let it smell your hand with a tiny smelly bit of grub in it, give it that peice but no more. Have another titbit in your hand and let dog smell it but dont let it have it.Get the sock and wiggle it under its nose, try to get dog agitated enough to get hold of it, then throw it only a few feet away, chances are dog will run to it and pick it up, call the dog in any way you can, call its name , then the minute it starts to come to you get down to its level on your knees really quick, it should come to you still with the sock in its mouth, if it does, make a fuss of it as youve never done before and give it the titbit. Its the way you start off with a 6 week old pup. Then you graduate to farther throws inside only, then in a garden where it cant get away too far. It takes a long time but if you make it fun you ll see the dog will progress to a skin then to its own kill. Good luck. Quote Link to post

bill88 6
The saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is a myth.A dog of any age can be trained, having said that Salukis, and Saluki crosses are renowned for there stubborness,so i would imagine it will be hard work but achievable. Glen Loth 1
............... and where i can buy 40 years experiance lol . Get a red setter from an aussie breeder, try and train it to do anything. You will have the equivalent of 40 years experiance in no time!!!!! The ones out here are "blonde" setters, cheers Quote Link to post
BenBhoy 4,706
good adive from squirrel. only thing i can add is, that if the dogs not showing an interest, or losing interest in the food reward, then you kneel/sit by dogs sleeping area and throw dummy from there. chances are if the dog does go pick it up, he'll wanna bring it back to his bed, so you wait there, take it and give big fuss. they soon realise the rewards. good luck.
