Glen Loth 1
I have been walking my new ferrets most afternoons for the past few weeks, but obviously its not the same as "match fitness". Normally when I go to their court they jump all over me but after their BIG first day yesterday they were not as bouncy as normal. With that in mind I decided to just give them a light run on one set. They are only young ferrets. Here are some pictures of the set. It was about a 50 holer, I set my 20 nets and blocked the rest. I gave each about half an hour, they will come to my whistle and I can call them out. This was the first bunny to hit the nets. It had a few hairs missing off the rump!! They flushed four rabbits each. A couple slipped the nets and I gave some to the farmer, here are the three I kept for the table. I let my hob rag a deadun My older pup is starting to work it out good and hitting the nets. The whippet is having a scratch at the holes and following the older pup, I,m pretty happy for their second day, ever. Anyway, I,ve had a great couple of days and ferrets and pups are snoring their heads off. I will give them another light day tomorrow and they can have a nice rest till next weekend. The missus likes to soak em in brine overnight before cooking, and I never interfere in her kitchen!! cheers Quote Link to post
bullsmilk 2
good going ...one piont id say is try to keep as quiet as poss mate or the bunny wont bolt as well this could be why the rabbit had a few hairs missing Quote Link to post
stubby 175
from looking at those pictures, I'd say get yourself a longnet, think you guys call it a roundabout net, still net 1 in every 5 holes within the netted area, get the dogs inside the net with you, and wait for the fun to start Quote Link to post

I spend a lot of my time on this particular place looking for smaller warrens, and this was one of them. There is one 500 metres from where todays pics were taken that is about 1 acre!! I will take some better pics soon, at the moment all I want to do is concentrate on the job at hand. I will eventually need more ferrets, but I would rather get my new crew going properly than get a heap of ferrets and dogs and end up as a circus. Prior to my getting permission a pro shooter was taking one hundred pair a night off this place. I need to crawl before I walk, cheers Quote Link to post
