Guest TIMMAY
I have just got back from 6 hours of fishing, and all i've got to show for it is three dogfish. As soon as i got home i gutted them, but what now? I've searched the net, and found everything from cook them immeadiately, to leave them for 3 days, and that they are delicious, to they are dangerous to eat! Any ideas on the best way to skin and cook em? Cheers! Quote Link to post

Guest quinny1
Dogifish needs to be fresh or else it goes bad very quickly....somethin about the skin taints the meat. Make a line with a sharp knife round the skin behind gills, get a stout pair of pliers and rip off the skin in one piece. With a little effort comes off like a glove. Bone out the central bone and then you got one chunky piece of boneless meat. Whip up beer batter and fry it. Very tasty Quinny. Quote Link to post
Guest merle
just skin it leave in the fridge for 2/3 days then eat do not eat fresh to much amonia in it tasts shit but after a couple of days very good the banes are big lumps of carterlidge so it is easy to pick meat off and you can feed it all to your dogs Quote Link to post
Guest TIMMAY
Cheers for the opinions, i'm going to try one tomorrow, if it tastes poo i'll see what the dog makes of the rest! Quote Link to post
Guest The Hob
Apparently a delicacy also known in some parts as "Rock Salmon" Quote Link to post
Guest WhitbyRich
HOBS RIGHT. ROCK SALMON! CHOP FINS AND TAIL OFF.THEN HEAD AND TAIL IT,THEN SKIN ,THEN FILLET IT.THE MEAT WILL KEEP FOR 3-5DAYS IN FRIDGE ,COOK IT SAME AS ANY OTHER SEA FISH!YOUR CHOICE Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
soak fillet/meat in salted water overnight, gets rid of amonia. Quote Link to post
kiwi 4
you got a picture of these doggies? if they are like ours or for any shark for that matter, they need to be truncked as soon as possible, cut off head, fins and tail, and gut. skin when you get home and eat the next day or freeze til needed. the ammonia will be stronger in the flesh if truncking is not done straight away and can be seen on flesh as a green tinge if left in the fridge to long. Guest TIMMAY
i have to confess the dogfish ended up in the bin! Perhaps i'll get round to trying them one day but for now i'll stick to eating more conventional fish! If i get a few more and work out how to, i'll put some piccies up of them for you kiwi. Went out boat fishing for the first time yesterday, bought a new rod and reel, got my mates boat in the water, spun about for a bit in the estuary, stopped roll up a couple of fags, and the battery was dead! Had to get towed in by the local boat club safety boat!!! Anyone wanna buy a cheap boat rod? Quote Link to post
