stubby 175
the lights are simply an indication of the depth, weather your in search or locate mode, start off, searching, chuck the collar up the garden, as you get nearer to it in search mode, the lights will come down from left(highest away) to the right (lowest away, once the light is showing the min number, flick the switch over to locate, the lights should now go back to the left side, start waving the finder left and right, to pick up the collar, once the bleeps are heard, and a directection figured out, the lights will again, come from left to right, the closer you get, untill your directly on the collar hope that helps Quote Link to post
paddy.t 8
top notch thanxs, is search mode 10 and 20 locate? Edited March 3, 2008 by paddy.t Quote Link to post
stubby 175
your back to front paddy, search, gives you from 20foot to 2foot, once the lights are at the 2, switch to locate thats from 10foot to 1 foot, so you maybe on search at 2foot, switching to lacate, may put the lights back upto 10foot, but its finer tuning, so should then take you down to a possible 1 foot, depending how far down the ferret is Quote Link to post

jultaylor1972 2
That all makes perfect sense to me now! But just one question - What is the dial thing on the back for? Quote Link to post
stubby 175
That all makes perfect sense to me now! But just one question - What is the dial thing on the back for? I presume were talking the pin point knob, mk3 have them, dont know about the mk2's anyway, lets say your standing over the warren, on search mode, you can turn 360 degree's and it will still flash and make the buzzing noise, so you start turning the pinpoint knob, until its just about make the buzzing silent, now as you turn, it will only buzz when your pointing it in the direction of the collar, pointing anywhere else will be silent, plus your led's should go higher, so it a bit like a homing in device, each time you take a step or two nearer your ferret, adjust the knob so it nearly cuts out the buzz, doing so, will lead you, ontop of your ferret, giving you a reading of how far down it is, using a mk3 can be tricky to begin with, but if you use all the 3 items on it together, youll soon be praising them, you have the visual LED's, go down the nearer you get, the buzzing, gets more erratic the nearer you get, the pinpoint, makes sure your going the right way, if you keep check on all 3 things, youll find the fert with ease, if however you just try using 1 or the other, you be cursing it, and wanting an old mk1 again, its very important you use the pinpoint knob, as leaving it turned on full blast, again makes it more confussing also dont start trying to find your fert, 10 minutes after dropping down a hole, the mk3 works best when the ferret is STILL/on a rabbit, if the ferret is moving, the mk3 can sometimes be a bit erratic, puts people off Quote Link to post

stubby 175
just bought mk1 and collar how do i turn them on and how do i work them. you dont turn a collar on, just stick the batteries in it, make sure they are the right way round, put a 9v in your locator, then turn the dial on the side to switch on Quote Link to post

How do i pinpoint where the ferret is? Quote Link to post
stubby 175
the mk1 has a wheel, this should be numbered, although the numbers do wear off with age, you can get new wheel stickers from deben, click it on an wind it all the way around, thats your 15ft setting, as you walk around waving it, you should get the knocking noise as your pointing in the right direction, by passing the locator over the area that the ferret is in/under you can pinpoint where the spot it, then you start turning the wheel back, as the signal (knocking) gets to a point of dissapearing, you then read off the number, printed on the wheel, which gives you a depth in feet, as to how far down your ferret is Quote Link to post
