Byron; What type of Bait Stations are ye using? What bait? When did ye last refresh it? About how are the boxes positioned? What history made ye put them out in the first place? Any bird feeders / compost heaps / garden ponds in the vicinity? Are ye urban or rural?

Come on; Give us something to play with here! :D

Ts tm. Watch those wires. What sort of traps are you using? Baited with what? Positioned where? Any idea what sort of mice ye have? What basic colour are they? Little brown ones or bigger yellowy ones with big eyes and ears?

Oh and Byron; Great shot ;)

i cut down feeding the birds a bit back. but still used one for sunny hearts, i baited up a few weeks ago after i heard one behind the kick boards in the kitchen [sorted that] not using traps only silent killers. bait is treated plus some stuff from a pest control mate. i dont think i am rural or urban [more a beach bum] as i only live fifty yards of high water mark.

Hi Ditch.... I know.... the wires were what worried me the most too, especially because the kids race to turn the light on in the mornings.

I've just bought some new traps from the local agric. merchant...I cant for the life of me remember what they were called, so I've took a picture.

I used a bit of chocolate in one bait well, and a peanut in the other... he went for the peanut.

I'm not sure on the type of mouse (deff not a door mouse) he was medium sized as far as mice go, lighter on the tummy, brown on the back with a wide darker stripe.

The one thing I didn't like about these traps is that it didn't kill the poor thing, it was still struggling, with half its face clamped  so I had to sort the nasty bit out. There was no blood either, the spikes didn't penetrate anywhere.

Pretty much as I suspected, TS. Apodemus. 'Wood Mice'. That's the good news, in so far as it goes. They're not such " Commensal " as 'Bumming a spot of warmth'. That is; They're not after ye food stuffs and liable to be everywhere, into everything. They're lodgers. Not permanent and unwanted House Guests. All they're doing is keeping warm by entering ye property and, having sussed out the warmest spot there is that heated tank .....

The chinese type traps ye buy in the sort of place ye bought those are - as ye discovered - worse than useless. I wouldn't consider their use. Springs could barely power a retractable ball point pen, most of the time. And the serrated jaws are for punter appeal.

Unfortunately, Wood Mice are becoming an ever growing point of conflict in uk. They'll continue to be so as their home turf - green and brown field sites - get swallowed up by housing developements. Anyway, I'm going into one here and it's Byrons Thread. Forgive me.

Best I can suggest is that ye get onto Killgerm and see if they'll sort ye out a few of their AF boxes and the Kness mouse traps to go in them. Should cost ye less than a score, all told and will discreetly take care of things. Best of all, they're safe and discreet. Only the key holder can access what's inside, once the signal device shows ye the trap's fired. Need any help sorting the right kit, give me a shout.

NOT the ideal trap for Woodies. But then, untill someone produces a Bigger mouse trap, to deal with these bigger mice ....?

Byron there? Beyond help ;)

Now I feel very guilty :( I'm going to take the traps back to the agricultural merchants this morning.
