philpot 5,171 Posted Thursday at 18:00 Report Share Posted Thursday at 18:00 Having recently bought another rimmy, CZ452 which I am really pleased with so far. My normal shooting on bunnies has always been using RWS subs and with no reason to think otherwise I zeroed the gun the other day at 60yds having changed the scope and whilst the poi was good I was seeing the bullet 's flight on a few shots as the sun and very pale background made it stand out. I confess, I have never seen a bullets flight before and these were a new batch of ammo but the point of this is that for the first time I saw how ' loopy ' the line of flight was. I was taken a back somewhat seeing this flightpath and wondered if I should spend some time testing Hv shells . Please forgive my ignorance but I have never bothered with HV in .22 rimmy because I used to have WMR and HMR so horses for courses I guess, which does make me wonder what to expect apart from a huge increase in noise but what else. I had some Hornady hv I had been given some years ago which are 1150fps, I bought a box of CCI Mini Mags at 1250fps and a box of Remmington Yellow Jackets at 1500fps. I am scrounging some CCI Stingers next week to try as well. I popped over to one of my perms to try the Remmys and Mini Mags this morning but as it was a bit soft underfoot, I did not take the car up the field and I was not carrying my table, chair and all my bits for bench rest testing and opted to simply take my trigger stick tripod to rest the gun on. It was bloody windy making it very difficult to keep myself and the gun still but nevertheless I managed to run a basic test which showed me that one mildot below my RWS subs zero was just about right at least close enough for me to take it out for a bunny hunt when the next dry day decides to show itsellf. Now for the questions, I should have said earlier that the Yellow Jackets are no longer available in the uk according to Viking Arms the importer so for now it will be CCI Mini Mags until I get hold of CCI Stingers however I am assuming that as these bullets are flying at much greater speed, they will have a much flatter trajectory, not comparing them to 3000fps HMR rounds but I am guessing much better than my subs. Would I be right in thinking the range will also increase a little over the subs not that extra range is so important as the perms I will be using this on will be a maximum of 110yds (lasered). With HMR, the noise level didn't really spook the rabbits so much as they didn't seem to know what it was or where it came from so if anything they were more confused. As these HV shells are noisy (I no longer have the WMR and HMR so cannot compare the noise level ) would you guys expect the sound level to have the same type of effect that HMR does with rabbits. I know some of these points may sound a bit basic but having never used HV shells in a .22lr gun before, I just don't know and I would be grateful for any comments or suggestions you may have.
