A little daunted BUT..

As some of you know I was given an unloved HW77 in the summer of 25 which needs the stock sorting and the metalwork has rust all over however this bloody old wreck is a tack driver, even in my hands, so it would be an awful shame to leave it looking so sad.  I had a chat with my good friend, our Jimmy as to what needs to be done and decided to leave it until the winter is on us for a project........................ well winter is here, 3 degrees today so it is time to get started and I will possibly ask again for a bit of advice Jimmy if I am not to happy the way things are going.  I am popping over to screwfix to pick up some paint stripper that I have just ordered with the intention of making a start next week as my wife is going to be out a few days and she won't be able to see the mess I make 

I will pop a few photos up so you can see what the old girl is like,,,,,, no not the wife, the gun, later today after I have taken my grandson to archery Oh yes, by the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR guys. We took our Charlie to an archery dealer just before Xmas to get him rigged out with a compound bow and a set of arrows so now it is time to get the bow sighted up so he can happily shoot away, it is not as easy to sight up as my rifles I can promise you that.

Best of luck with your new project stripping it down and sorting it all out before your wife returns she will not be happy if oil and greese and other muck out of the gun goes on her beautiful best table cloth and her tea towels are been used to remove greese from your hands and cleaning the gun parts with

Before I start properly, I have lightly rubbed the barrel with some wire wool I picked up from the rfd which lifted all the surface rust and I will try on the chrome pellet port although I really dont think that is going to get any better.  I had considered having the metalwork dipped / coloured (can't remember what the process is called ) YES I CAN......... Cerekote but the price quoted was £135 and I just do not think it is worth paying out that much so I will consider my options in that area when I have cleaned it off as best I can.

Oh and remember to keep your hand away from the loading port until you hear the click of the cocking lever locking into place. I made that mistake and ended up with some stitches

I had a 77 that I sold to a good friend off this forum 

I did the stock up in a matt finish 

It was stunning 

Iv tried loads of times to buy it back 

But Mark Will not part with it

The hw  under levers are better designed then the snow peck bams Chinese type they are crudey made with no safety switches on as you mentioned about the loading port watch your finger and thumb if that got slammed in there

That will end up nice, good advice jimmy. 135 quid for creakote get it done if its a good one! New piston seal, clean out and polish - bit of bumslide. Bit of red dye in the wood stain before a tru-oil Gun for life there! Really hope to see updates how you get on!

The stock will be either green or blue stain.

I know Jimmy, Mark told me he would not part with it. I will never use this for hunting, just for wet cold days on the indoor range or in the garden, pcp or rimmy for hunting. I am thinking that if the metalwork cleans up well enough, I may just have it oiled and not try to add colour back into it, not what you would do Jimmy but I am sort of used to seeing the finish without a black sheen........................ we will see.

I must admit these pellet ports do keep my attention so I hold the lever all the time until my fingers are clear of the port, I am a coward that way..............
