philpot 5,135 Posted Friday at 20:52 Report Share Posted Friday at 20:52 No not the pop group. I was recently asked to get stuck in on a rather large rabbit warren, now this was not expected because I have had this perm for the past 4 years but it is a total stop whilst the game season is on. This year after getting the request to get back onto the bunnies, a chat with the game keeper was needed and I fully expected to be told in no uncertain terms to bugger off until March as usual however this time I got the word to get stuck in......................... Last week it was a full moon which I find to be usless for night shooting so leave it to this week. Monday comes and a visit to see if there is much that has changed but the rain was so intense, I could hardly see the road let alone spot any rabbits. Rain followed each day so far but this afternoon after archery I thought a daytime look to see what the land was like after the rain. The warren is about 150mts long directly under a fence and most of my shots using the rimfire were around 70-80mt but now, having sold all my firearms, I have to consider where to position myself for sub 12 use. Well the rain came again flooding roads and in come cases it was a good job that I have a 4x4 for the ground clearance. I did make it to the land which is a gentle slope however at one point there was a river heading down the field decending into a pond at the bottom of the field, luckily missing the warren. I sat with a flask of coffee, my hw110, vape, binos and a magazine which was very useful as there were no rabbits to be seen and it was getting very boring. The forcast is better next week with the rains passing over to a drier period but much colder, I can live with that. I have not used a sub 12 for bunny hunting and at night for quite some tima usually favouring my fac air rifles and in some cases the rimmy but now it is a very different kettle of fish and one that I am looking forward to. Lets hope the rain does in fact piss off and allow us to get on with the pest control and catching a few cod that are now starting to show on my part of the coastline but before I get involved in paying a bloody fortune in bait, I need to go and net myself a load of fresh shrimp to put in my garden saltwater tank ready for action at a moments notice....................I hope.
