NEWKID 29,047 Posted Saturday at 17:01 Report Share Posted Saturday at 17:01 Fished the tidal Exe yesterday, fishing from top of the tide down. This is a funny place but holds loads of fish from roach, dace, chub to mullet, bass. Sea trout and salmon and loads of wid brown trout.. some days you can have a proper mixed bag.. Got there at 9am which was top of the tide, so fished the feeder whilst I waited for the tide to drop, not one bite! Moved to another swim...same result... no idea what was going on.. Moved another 3 times and fished the stick float with maggot, just didn't want a blank on what is my water lol.. Eventually caught a small brownie and nearly called it a day, by now I'd walked around a mile downstream close to where I grew up.. there was one place i still fancied a fish or 2 out of, a deep run on the far bank which meant wading across the full width of the river and running a stick float along the far bank tree line... Couple of handfuls of maggots in, and 2nd trot hit something solid..after a real.good scrap in the fast water finally handed out a very good chub, around 5lb . I tried to wade back to the far bank for a pic but dropped it en route... you'll have to take my word for that one..lol After that had 3 more very nice chub around 3.5b to 4lb mark..proper lumps on light float gear and possibly my favourite way of fishing, running a stick float through! It took me all day, but that last hour was great, took me back 30 years... This prick of a seal maybe the reason for no fish early on..this is 7 miles from the sea ffs! WILF 50,879 Posted Saturday at 19:38 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:38 Brilliant mate, it’s such a shame now that all the Rod and line methods seem to be a dying art…..everything is pole fishing now and it’s not something I’m a massive fan of having grown up on Rod and line. Fantastic autumnal colours, nice one 1 Quote Link to post
