amadolabonte 6 Posted Tuesday at 13:47 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 13:47 Hey everyone, I’m in the market for a reliable log splitter for home use and could really use your advice. I’ve got a mix of hardwood and softwood, and I’m splitting about a cord or two each season. I’m considering electric versus gas models but not sure which is better for my needs. Portability and ease of use are also important since I’ll be moving it around the yard. Anyone have personal experience or brand recommendations? What tonnage should I be looking at? terryd 8,894 Posted Tuesday at 14:01 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 14:01 Speed of the ram is a consideration. I used to have a 4 stroke one from Scotland handy tool and after day in woods did logs in evenings but when you were in a rush the speed of the ram was a pain but obviously easier than swinging ya chopper. We had a pto driven one or the boss did that was the boy nice fast ram. Out of touch now a days but yea watch speed of ram don’t want it to slow
ands 572 Posted Tuesday at 15:49 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 15:49 I've been using a forest master (british make) 240 mains. 7 tonns force i think. Surprising how you think you can manage without one then after using one (and doing a days work in an hour) you wouldn't be without one. It reloads pretty much as fast as you can put logs on it 8 seconds i think.
