moxy 617
I went out last night for a quick hour(which easily turned to two). To one of my new permissions which is a dairy farm. My intention was just for a few bunnys for the ferrets. 5 minuets in and an easy 25 yarder from the gate. Nice one!! The sky was clear and no wind at all, Which wasnt such a help. The land is that saturated at the moment im sure that the rabbits in the next village could hear me coming, Squelch squelch!! So i resided to staying around the yard. Sure enough another rabbit had the misfortune to bolt out from behind some silage bails and just sit there, spotted it with the lamp and it crouched down and pretended that i hadnt seen it, Oh how wrong it was, another for the bag thank you very much. When i first got this permission the farmer said that there was a small rat problem, SMALL, well feck me!!! Moseying on and around the yard i saw the little buggers everywhere, let alone the noise they were making, banging and squeeling. I had an amber filter on my lamp which is spot on for the bunnys, but everytime i spotted a rat it was off, they were not having any of it. I dimmed the lamp but that didnt help either. So i swapped filters, I banged on the red one and i was in business. It took a while for the rats to show themselves but when they did they just sat there. As cool as you like. I popped off 5 very easily, just wandering around the yard. After a few circuits i started to notice where they were all coming and going from, so on my next visit be warned rats Deben reccommend the amber filter for rats, I dont!! Anyhoo i managed to find a tape measure and i only had my mobile with me so the pic isnt that good but i will take my camera next time and get some good pics posted. The best i did last night was a little over 17". I know it wont win me any awards!!! But it will do until i get me a Big un. Watch this space>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quote Link to post

Watch this space>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> your right moxy the red filter is best on rats , i had a loan of a logan light on my bsa lightning ,, but did not have a filter so i bought a little bottle of tizer and the little plastic bottle is red in colour , i cut the neck of and made 4 little slits around the neck and slid it over the small logan light so that the base of the bottle is up against the front of the lamp , and it worked great , over a five night period i shot over 1200 rats , gsw.
