The West Wexford Harriers Hunt Club Dog Show Sunday 28^th May 23

As the dawn chorus was serenading the countryside around us on Sunday morning,  we crawled out of bed and headed down the motorway to the beautiful Slaney Valley, in County Wexford. Yes, the day had finally arrived for the West Wexford Harriers Hunt Club annual Dog Show at Cassagh, Co Wexford to take its place on the sporting calendar. This was the start of another great sporting occasion and what a day that was. 

As we entered the field we could see this was a superb venue for a dog show with the beautiful surrounding  mountains shading the valley below.  Stalls with everything needed in the ring and in the field were on site. 

As I was given  the honour of judging the Whippets on the day, I was made very welcome by show organisers Aine and Derek O Connor and  Pat and Jade Dunphy.  Within minutes of our arrival the field filled up very quick with families, trailers and dogs of all breeds all out for a great days enjoyment and maybe a rosette or two to take home with them.

Times passes so quickly, and very soon it was time for the digging competition to commence and get the clock ticking.  The digging generated some craic and  excitement from family and friends around the diggers, all shouting words of encouragement for their favourite team. Thirty minutes later with measurements  taken, the winners were announced.

The winning Digging team was :

Congratulations Alan and Paul, and also congratulations to all the other digging teams who took part on the day. You were all winners in my eyes.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day for a job well done. Judging is not an easy task, but you carried out your remit with efficiency and perfection.

And Finally, Finally, what can I say about these to lovely people Aine and Derek O Connor and the West Wexford Harriers committee and their back up team that will praise them enough for the magnificent dog show they organised and produced on Sunday.

I could see a lot of hard work and organisation was carried out behind the scenes to make this show such a success and a most enjoyable day for everybody.

Thanks for the memory and I am already looking forward to more of the same in 2024.
