THE TALLYHO DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SUNDAY 28thMAY 2023

The city of the 7 towers came alight on Sunday with the sound of barking dogs, childrens laughter and the beautiful summer sunshine beaming down in abundance at the Tallyho Dog show and Raceday.

As always the Ballymena venue was in superb order with all show rings and racecourse in mint condition. Each and every time The Tallyho club decides to put on a Dog show, straight away it smells of quality, eagerness, and a path laid down from start to finish to please the loyal canine followers, and this they done a 100% .

The Tallyho dog shows are all the brainchild of a loyal and true Terrier man Peter Morgan who wears his heart on his sleeve, and runs all his shows for Charity. Over the years in total the revenue donated from Peters shows is fast reaching the £10,000 mark or more. What an achievement and what a great window for Country Sports.

The wee people were well catered with Bouncy Castles situated out of harms way and loads of goodies in the childrens handling class. Some tired we feet going home on Sunday evening.

Niall O Cloghan and his 2 boys were there with their now ever popular Terrier Maze.  Some craic down around that camp.  Some fast we terriers and all showing off their potential for working  in the field in winter time.

Paul Boyd and Mick Mc Cormack were there with stalls full of leads, bedding and collars, and everything needed for the show ring and in the field. A burger van was also on site to keep hunger at bay. All needs catered for.

As usual the Raffle generated a flurry of excitement with great prizes on offer. A lot of happy canine folk went home with armfuls of goodies.

Very Soon it was Race and show Time.

Congratulations to all above winners.

And Finally, It was overwhelming to see two up and coming young Judges Cayce Coyle and Katelyn Mc Kenzie, highly commended for their judgement and efficiency on carrying out their remit on the day. Again this was Peter Morgans idea giving the Country Sports youth of tomorrow a chance to shine in the sport they were born into. And they definitely did not let him down.

The quality of the judging on the day from all the judges was excellent and to a very high standard. Well done to all.

Judges as follows :

Childrens Handling Class

Joanna Relf Lee

Lurchers /Katelyn Mc Kenzie

Whippets /Cayce Coyle

Terriers /JP O Hagan

Bullys /Ashton Sands

Strong Dogs /John Ryder

All credit must go to Joanna Relf Lee and the Lee family for the very efficient way they carried out the Racing on the day. Well done to all.

And Finally, Finally, when I was young, my mother used to hammer it into me that charity begins at home. I have the distinct feeling Peter Morgans mother had the same idea. This man over the years has given every penny from his shows, let it big or small to various charities in the North of Ireland. This is all with the help of the good country sports people who come out to support his shows. What a window for our Country Sports people near and far.

As I have said so many times in my write-ups, the money given to charity from our shows is helping some poor persons in need, in hospital or in need of help whatever the reason.

Peter, it was evident a lot of hard work and organisation was carried out behind the scenes to make your show a roaring success. I have heard nothing but good reports about it and it is a credit to you for all your hard work and doing most of it on your own.  Whatever you are doing Peter, you are doing right. A very enjoyable day was had by all, and hopefully there will be more of the same in the near future.

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30

      Congratulations to all above winners.
And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day,on behalf of the Keep er Lit Team for a job well done.
Strong Dog Judge : Gareth Barnett
      Lurcher Judge       : Gerard Melaugh
      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
