TALLY HO CHRISTMAS DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SATURDAY 10th DECEMBER 22

With Santas sleigh bells ringing over the hills of County Antrim, the day had arrived for to shout  Tally Ho and away we go to the City of the Famous 7 Towers and the venue for the Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show and Race Day

Although it was very cold on the day, this show was not lacking in Christmas cheer. As this was the last show of 2022 the great canine folk came out in their glory. Hunting men and women left the field and their homes to spend a day out at this great Christmas Sporting occasion.

Our shows summer and winter is an exciting way to challenge both yourself and your dog, while meeting people in a world of healthy competition.

The Christmas Dog Show is always a very welcome break from the busy schedules of Christmas shopping and all the festive razzmatazz that goes with it.

Christmas can also be a very sad and lonesome time, full of memories of yesteryear. This annual doggie day out before Christmas lifts this mantle, brings cheer in abundance, and helps us to leave our cares behind and learn to smile again if only for a day and that brings rewards in itself.

What a big Jingle Bell surprise. Santa and his Elf stopped off at the Tally Ho show to pay a visit on his way to the North Pole with lots and lots of goodies for the children. This was the highlight of the day. It was heart warming to hear the children singing Jingle Bells, and to see the happy smiles on those we faces. There was also a fancy dress class for the best dressed dog on the day, and that created so much fun and interest.

A Big Congratulations to all winners in the Showing and Racing and well done to all.

As the shades of the winter darkness was falling fast it was quickly Raffle time. The raffle always generates miles of laughter and excitement. Some great and valuable Christmas prizes, including a Turkey. Lots of big people and some very small people went home very happy campers with armfuls of goodies.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges on the day for a job well done.

***Santa Claus /JP O Hagan

***Elf/ Katelyn Mc Kenzie.

A big thank you to Matt Lee/Joanna Relf Lee /Matthew Lee for being so helpful with the racing on the day. Your experience and input was invaluable, and of this the Tally Ho team are extremely grateful.

Finally, Finally, the craic and the banter around the rings was mighty and a brilliant atmosphere full of Christmas cheer.

None of this would have been possible without the main man at the helm, and brilliant organiser Peter Morgan and helpers Conor Creagh and Caitlin Hughes. Peter put this show together within 6 weeks and worked tirelessly and gave up his time to make this day so successful and enjoyable   despite the bad weather.

Peter your show was a credit to you and you made every one so welcome. You have a heart of gold and went over and above the call of duty with your Trophies, Rosettes and Prizes. I have heard nothing but praise from everybody that came my way. Some sleepless nights, but all well worth it and again a  credit to you Peter Morgan and everybody involved.

Lets not forget the very lonely homes this Christmas North and South of the border after the wrath of the dreadful Covid and presently Strep A. Homes all over this beautiful Island of ours are suffering so much with the loss of their loved ones, and it is my hope and prayers for 2023 they will all get the strength to carry on as best they can.

Hopefully 2023 will be better for all of us, and I will look forward to meeting up with you all again in the new year.

Stay safe all my Sporting friends, God Bless, and have a lovely Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

Margaret Mc Stay

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30

      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
