THE DWTC DOG SHOW  SUNDAY 29TH MAY 22

Ideally situated in the shadows of   picturesque little village Gilford  and deep in the heart of the Ulster Countryside, lies the town land  of Mullabrack. This was the perfect setting for the DWTC dog show Sunday 29thMay and what an enjoyable day that was. The weather was on our side for a change, with the sun beaming down in abundance and not a cloud in the sky.

As usual the field was in immaculate condition and the rings well spaced out. There was a very large crowd in attendance with burger van and toilet facilities on site.

The craic was mighty at raffle time. Some great prizes on offer and followed by a very successful auction.

As usual each year Tom Barry organiser of the DWTC show makes presentations to people who in his estimation have made valuable contributions to Country Sports during the year. My legs nearly went from under me when I was called to the main arena and presented with a beautiful bouquet of red tulips by Morgan Barry for my contribution to Country Sports down through the years. I so much appreciated this thought and made me very proud of the Country Sports scene I play a small part in.

Next up was a true Country Sportsman both in the show ring and in the field and one of natures gentlemen. Thomas Coleman was presented with a beautiful hip flask for his contribution and help to the DWTC shows through the years. A well deserved honour for a great Country Sports person.

It was nice to see so many families, their children and dogs all out on a sunny Sunday enjoying a day out at the sport we love. Our passion is showing and racing with our Canine friends in the summer and back to the field in the winter.

Upwards and onwards and very soon it was show time. The childrens handling class was first and boy did the little folk show their dogs. As agreed, you were all winners on the day and all went home with some lovely goodies to munch on. Well done to all.

The show commenced at approximately 1.30pm.

You all carried out your duties with efficiency and fairness and many thanks for that.

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Tom and Leanne Barry, Ethan, Morgan, Gary Mitchell and back up team, you are simply the best. Your show was run with impeccable organisation and everything ran without a hitch.

It was very evident a lot of preparation and hard work went on behind the scenes to make this show a success this year again and was a most enjoyable day for everyone.

Folks, we have to bear in mind the grief that loosing a brother, sister or family member to the dreaded Big C as it is called nowadays takes its toll on a family. Unfortunately this came this year to the Barry family when Tom lost his beloved sister to this dreaded disease.

Sometimes it is very hard to carry on in life when this knocks on your door and takes with it all your hopes and dreams and memories of yesterday with it.

Because of the wonderful end of life treatment Toms late sister received in the Hospice, Tom has decided to give all proceeds of the Raffle and Auction at his show to the Hospice. What a very rewarding thing to do. As there is some more cash to come in, Tom will soon be handing it over to the Hospice with £920 so far.

Hopefully this donation, which all our brilliant Country Sports community contributed to by coming to the show, will help some individual to leave this world painless and with dignity. Our Hospices do not get half enough praise for the wonderful work they do in our hour of need.

Tom, a brilliant day was had at your show. Country Sports is in our blood and hopefully we will meet again at your show in 2023 for more of the same.
