Any one make there own incubator for  chicken eggs ?

Do hen eggs need turning daily or can you leave them ? Do you turn them by hand or make something to do it ?

If anyone makes there own what's the hatch rate like ?

They need to be stored pointed end down and turned daily until placed in the incubator.Once in the incubator they need to be turned 3(some say 5) times a day for 18 days(chicken eggs) and then not turned for the last three days before hatching. Tip- Mark the eggs with pencil, eg x on one side and a number on the other(eg the order you collected them etc so you know which is which if some don`t hatch etc). This will help you when turning them etc ie all x pointing up and all numbers  up the next turn. Some say don`t use eggs over 7 days old but I hatched 2 batches recently which had some 14 day old eggs and had 100% hatch rate. I don`t use a homemade incubator but if the temperature and humidity is spot on then it can be successful.
