Ken's Deputy 4,463
It's practically a rhetorical question really, lads. Just thinking out loud, to clear my head. I'm gonna make a night box, for chickens, see. Blithely imagined I'd knock it up out of 'planks'. Then, I had the 'amazing idea' of running the power saw along the bottom edges. 45 degree cut ... Oh, Then I'd have to cut the Top edges too. Much of it on four foot bits I have Just started sounding a bit labour intensive and prone to my fukking up. I was thinking of draught exclusion, see? Next thought was, fukk it. We only live once. Forget the seven or so bits of 4'. Put that shit aside and buy a load of Ship. That will be draught proof, won't it? Just thinking; What do people do about the corners? Just butt them together and let the frame, inside, take care of shit? Winter's long, lads! I've been holed up, waiting for this! Got to try to get a Lot done! Not easy for a sloth!

Ken's Deputy 4,463
Naah. Fair point, Charts. But, Fukk Ply!!! I don't know what it is, mate? Local wood, or local weather? But, I bought a sheet of Exterior Grade Ply, yeah? Cost me a lot of money (Thick stuff. 18mm?) But, I had lots of plans for it. Know what? Before I'd even used half of it, it was Blowing and flaking! Literally, just coming apart, right there outside my gate. On a pallet. I made a pine marten box of some of it? Within a year, That was blowing all over my compound! Just fukking fell apart!!! Delaminated Now, I have boxes here, been up over a decade. Just made of deal planks. Still going strong! So, no. Once bitten ....! Fukk ply.
chartpolski 29,256
I wish I could still get the old tea chests, bit of chicken wire over the front, perfect for my broody hens, but I just had a look on eBay and gumtree.....£25-£40 EACH ! Cheers.
Ken's Deputy 4,463
WOW!!! I'd actually, genuinely wondered about tea chests, not that long ago. No particular reason. Just thinking back, like ye do. I thought then; " Probably on ebay and that fukking etsy shit hole. Selling for a fortune as 'Retro' and 'Shabby Chic ". I wasn't far wrong then!
