Nicepix 5,650
The ESL project was exposed by a journalist who passed on his findings to a German newspaper Der Spiegel. Thousands of emails and other documentation has been analysed and the background and aims of the project laid clear. It is a long read. But if you are genuinely interested in football and the greed of top club's owners it is worth the time: https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/football-documents-show-secret-plans-for-elite-league-of-top-clubs-a-1236447.html TLDR: The idea of the ESL project is to direct more TV and media money to the top clubs, in particular Real Madrid and Barcelona who were to receive €30m per year more than any other clubs. Barcelona are €1b in debt and RM not far behind. The TV rights to UEFA are due to be re-negotiated shortly. Since at least 2018 the project has been analysed by lawyers in many countries in order to discover whether ESL clubs could effectively leave UEFA without clubs and players being penalised. It was discovered that in Germany players have a legal binding to the Bundesliga meaning that they could terminate their contracts to ESL clubs and sign on elsewhere as free agents. Up to that point Bayern Munich had been involved, but went cold on the deal. The bank that was to fund the initial project would have earned at least €6b profit over the next 23 years. As a result of the reaction to ESL they have now been downgraded on the ethics scale meaning they will lose business and are unlikely to proceed.
DIDO.1 22,864
Load of over paid puffters playing a game with no element of decency or sportsmanship. The only manly impressive element being the hooligans who at least had stlye and male attributes. When I come to power I'm going to ban football and use the stadiums for bullfights and executions.
