Check out the above on ebay. Is it a wind up, or could you really catch tuna of that size of the North East coast in the last century

one of the top tunny fishermen from the 20s & 30s was a mr L.MITCHELL-HENRY and author

of many tunny fishing books and designed many reel rods and hooks for tuna

and also world record tunny holder of 851lbcought on 11/9/1933

heres a extract from one of his books called tunny fishing at home and abroard printed in 1934

 

the auther with his world record tunny 851lb

caught on the improved mitchell-henry reel on a line of 152lb breaking strain

mitchell -henry hook

time,1 hour 47 minutes

place, 40 miles of whitby

It's a crying shame if the fish population was completely wiped out by overfishing

 

Wonder if there were other factors like commercial fishing or environmental changes? Wouldn't mind latching onto something like that myself!!

With rod and line,read about it in a mag a year or two ago the japs come over to net or long line for them though.

yes john there has been some huge blue fin tuna caught of the west coast of ireland

in the last 20 years the irish rod caught record is 970lb caught by adrian molloy

on a charter out of kilcar south west donegal
