Mid and East Antrim Charity Working Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 11th August 19 at the "Field of Dreams Schooling Track" , Maghera.

Set in the rolling countryside of Maghera on the edge of the beautiful North Coast of Ireland is the now famous “ Field of Dreams  Schooling Track “. This was the venue for the Charity Dog Show and Race day Sunday 11th August 19.

After a trouble free journey, with dogs in tow, we arrived at our destination at approximately 10.00am. The place was buzzing with activity, with a burger stand to feed us all day, and all set up and ready to go for another great sporting event. The weather was pretty good, with a few light showers in the morning, with the sun peeping out for the rest of the day.

There was a very nice crowd of like minded Country Sports people there on Sunday, all out with the same goal in mind to win and bring a trophy home on the day, and generally enjoy a good relaxing country sports event.
It was nice to see new faces there, along with all the regular show goers. The banter and the craic was good with nice people, all out in abundance at the ‘Field of Dreams ‘ on Sunday,

The Racing began at approximately 12.00noon followed by the showing.

Congratulations to  all above winners and well done.

And finally, may I take this opportunity to thank everybody who come out and supported this show on Sunday.

To the judges  -  Whippets : Michelle Rafferty/ Lurchers : Clayton Hastings/ Terriers Eamo Mc Erlain/ Childrens Ladies and Gents Handling Class : Lisa Dumigan.  Judging can be a hard task master at any time, but you carried out your duties effective and efficiently on the day. Many thanks for that.

Photographs were taken by several people, including myself on Sunday and are now proudly displayed on our face book pages.

And Finally, Finally, if it were not for the organisers, Chontelle Mc Meekin / Mark Mc  Callion and owner Joe Hurley, who worked tirelessly before and on the day to make this show a success, this day would not of been possible. Your input and experience was invaluable. You have hearts of gold and are shinning lights in the Country Sports show arena.  Many thanks again for all your hard work and for a great cause.

Last Sunday was a very special day for everyone at the “Field Of Dreams Schooling Track“ and especially for the Hurley Family, as this show was held in memory of their beloved son and brother Christopher who passed away a short time ago with a terminal Illness. The purpose of the show was to raise funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity who cared so lovingly for Christopher during his end of life days on this earth.

The charity Marie Curie Nurses, which this show was run for, help people affected with a cancer diagnosis or terminal illness to achieve a good quality of life, and support them to keep their independence and dignityfor as long as possible. The Marie Curie nurses are angels here on this earth, giving emotional support to families in the community when needed, including treating or managing pain and other symptoms with medicines, therapies and other specialist approaches.

Chontelle Mc Meekin has reliable informed me, that in memory of Christopher Hurley and the treatment and care he received from this brilliant charity, £900 was collected on Sunday with some more cash to come in. There will be a presentation at the Marie Curie offices in the coming weeks where the final figure will be announced.  How great is this.

I must say, Chontelle/Mark and Joe, when I left the “ Field of Dreams” on Sunday evening, I left a little piece of my heart there and for the charity it was held for. I love that Schooling Track, and look forward to going back to this excellent venue shortly.

The North West Terrier,Lurcher and Whippet Club ( Barry Hollands Show ) Sunday 15th March 2020
As the saying goes Spring has Sprung, and with the work in field  complete , the time had arrived for to  start the Dog Show and Racing season for 2020.
Although the dreaded Corona Virus hung over our canine community, it was good to get away from the long dreary winter days, and  head to the first Dog Show of the year. The venue  for the day was  beautiful Barrentop Fun Farm, Donemana, Co Tyrone. Although it  was icy cold, it kept mostly dry with the exception of a few light showers.
As this was the first show of the year, our loyal Canine Community came out in force to support this great event. There was a big turn out of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets, Pets and Strong dogs. Rings were well spaced out, a good racing track, and plenty of hand sanitizer on site.
As usual, the raffle generated a flurry of excitement, with armfuls of goodies up for grabs. And I can tell you no one was disappointed.
Showing started at approximately 1oclock, and was quickly followed by the Racing.
      Here are the Showing  Results.

      Strong Dogs : Barry Holland
Bull Cross : Chontelle Mc Meekan
      Childs Handling: Margaret Mc Stay
Judging is not an easy task at any time, but you executed your duties fair and with efficiency, integrity, and respect.
A special word of thanks to George Mc Garell, owner of beautiful scenic Barrentop Fun Farm for this prime show venue. You gave the show an excellent venue, and of that we are truly grateful.
And Finally, Finally, None of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication behind the scenes of Barry Holland/John Shaw and Colin Maguire. Along with your brilliant committee, Eimear Maguire/Nikyla and Stacy Love and helpers, you worked tirelessly to make this show  an overwhelming success in these trying times. What a great start to the summer showing and racing season.
Barry,John and Colin, when we are out in the field in the snow and rain with our faithful Canine companions, we will look back with fond memories at this day back in March we spent at Barrentop at the North West Lurcher/ Terrier and Whippet Club first show of 2020.
Thanks for the memory and I am already looking forward to your next show in August for more of the same.
