Mid and East Antrim Charity Working Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 11th August 19 at the "Field of Dreams Schooling Track" , Maghera.

Set in the rolling countryside of Maghera on the edge of the beautiful North Coast of Ireland is the now famous “ Field of Dreams  Schooling Track “. This was the venue for the Charity Dog Show and Race day Sunday 11th August 19.

After a trouble free journey, with dogs in tow, we arrived at our destination at approximately 10.00am. The place was buzzing with activity, with a burger stand to feed us all day, and all set up and ready to go for another great sporting event. The weather was pretty good, with a few light showers in the morning, with the sun peeping out for the rest of the day.

There was a very nice crowd of like minded Country Sports people there on Sunday, all out with the same goal in mind to win and bring a trophy home on the day, and generally enjoy a good relaxing country sports event.
It was nice to see new faces there, along with all the regular show goers. The banter and the craic was good with nice people, all out in abundance at the ‘Field of Dreams ‘ on Sunday,

The Racing began at approximately 12.00noon followed by the showing.

Congratulations to  all above winners and well done.

And finally, may I take this opportunity to thank everybody who come out and supported this show on Sunday.

To the judges  -  Whippets : Michelle Rafferty/ Lurchers : Clayton Hastings/ Terriers Eamo Mc Erlain/ Childrens Ladies and Gents Handling Class : Lisa Dumigan.  Judging can be a hard task master at any time, but you carried out your duties effective and efficiently on the day. Many thanks for that.

Photographs were taken by several people, including myself on Sunday and are now proudly displayed on our face book pages.

And Finally, Finally, if it were not for the organisers, Chontelle Mc Meekin / Mark Mc  Callion and owner Joe Hurley, who worked tirelessly before and on the day to make this show a success, this day would not of been possible. Your input and experience was invaluable. You have hearts of gold and are shinning lights in the Country Sports show arena.  Many thanks again for all your hard work and for a great cause.

Last Sunday was a very special day for everyone at the “Field Of Dreams Schooling Track“ and especially for the Hurley Family, as this show was held in memory of their beloved son and brother Christopher who passed away a short time ago with a terminal Illness. The purpose of the show was to raise funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity who cared so lovingly for Christopher during his end of life days on this earth.

The charity Marie Curie Nurses, which this show was run for, help people affected with a cancer diagnosis or terminal illness to achieve a good quality of life, and support them to keep their independence and dignityfor as long as possible. The Marie Curie nurses are angels here on this earth, giving emotional support to families in the community when needed, including treating or managing pain and other symptoms with medicines, therapies and other specialist approaches.

Chontelle Mc Meekin has reliable informed me, that in memory of Christopher Hurley and the treatment and care he received from this brilliant charity, £900 was collected on Sunday with some more cash to come in. There will be a presentation at the Marie Curie offices in the coming weeks where the final figure will be announced.  How great is this.

I must say, Chontelle/Mark and Joe, when I left the “ Field of Dreams” on Sunday evening, I left a little piece of my heart there and for the charity it was held for. I love that Schooling Track, and look forward to going back to this excellent venue shortly.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
