Guest Lurcherbitch
but why hang them if they've ran well? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cause they dont want them, season ended, injury, got new dog. Same reason as they get shut of a dog any where in the world. But some country's are crueler than others....in saying that they think it's kind to hang em high. Quote Link to post
swanseajack 228
I have heard about them lynching there hounds at the end of the season too seen a photo somewhere I think there cracking dogs and I have seen many of them in Europe, not working unfortunatley, but i went over a few and they sure looked handy, really like the rough jobs  <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just type in Galgos on Google images, there's plenty to look at, some useful looking dogs over there... also plenty of them hanging  LB on the subject of hanging it won't matter how high or low you hang them, if they of the ground they'd still die in the same time.. I Don't understand why anyone (even the feckin spanish) would hang a dog... Quote Link to post

Lennard 10
Now that we're talking about it...I've come across more people/cultures around the world that hang or strangle dogs. I believe they did that in Scotland. I am sure they do it in parts of south America, they even have special "strangeling knots". They do it in parts of the Artic. Somewhere there must be some kind of eerie folklore related to the hanging but I don't know what and why... Quote Link to post
Guest thunderbelly
Hmm makes sense to me, take your dog; who ran good all season got you some rabbits and such and kill him. that way you don't have to worry about feeding the bugger all through the winter. Imagine you could save at least $50 maybe even $75 on adult dog food. That money could be then spent on the puppies you have to raise and train to replace the mature trained proven working dog you just killed. Everyone knows it's soooo much easier to start over again every year than it is to just maintain and improve your good dog. Seems like a well thought out plan to me As far as that happening in the Arctic, maybe in the more populated areas it might but in the more primitive areas the dogs are used as tools and essential to survival. The dogs don't need new belts and spark plugs and regular maintenance, they do need to eat, they are used in chasing and catching the meat they and their owners eat though. There is a breed of dog "Canadian eskimo dog" that is endangered because it's usefulness is being replaced with snowmobiles. common sense seems so rare Quote Link to post
Guest Lurcherbitch
If you go to google, type in rescue Galgos, you will see for yourself. Quote Link to post
Guest mush
a lot of them are run in comps like are greyhounds, getting points for the turn speed est. with a lot longer run than our greyhounds the dogs are going to use their heads a lot quicker, so after a season most go. Dawn B 212
The Spanish are notorious for hanging dogs after a work season, they do it to Pointers and Spaniels too, they are morons. I do not wish to offend anyone but I do not support people who take dogs from other countries then bring them here when we have such a huge rescue problem concerning Greyhounds and Lurchers here, they are compounding the problem even more. If the dog is wanted and going to be looked after by someone from the UK, does it actually matter if its from Spain, Japan or Outer Mongolia? A dog is still a dog. I spose some people feel the cruelty of dogs being hung is worse than some of the cruelty over here, allthough I think cruelty is everywhere these days. I can understand you thinking there is a problem if people bring the dogs over here and put them in our rescue centres to be rehomed, but if your talking about someone bringing dogs over off their own backs to give them a home then how can that be compunding the problem? Guest thunderbelly
I think Dawn is saying fix the problems in your own backyard first. I may be wrong but it wouldn't be the first time. Quote Link to post
Guest CharlieC
I dont see a problem with someone bringing a dog over from another country, like I said, so long as that dog is coming to a private home and not going to take up space in a UK rescue centre, meaning one less space for a dog thats needs it, then I think its a free country for people to do what they want.
