The Northern Ireland Country Fair at Scarva

Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th  May 2019

What a glorious weekend we had at the annual Northern Ireland Country Sports Fair held in the majestic grounds of the beautiful Scarvagh Estate. Rising by the bell on both days, it was great to be alive, in good health, and with our dogs in toe, we arrived at the venue for Northern Ireland Country Sports Fair at approximately 10.30.

As we arrived in the field the atmosphere was electric with the sound of barking dogs, sweet music, breakfast wafting in the air, and the stall holders setting out their wares for the day. Every year this Fair grows from strength to strength, and this year was no different.

Dogs exercised, fed and watered, we headed up into the Fair for some retail therapy and we were not disappointed.

There was everything there from a needle to an anchor. We stopped off with Stephen Smyth on the Barbour stand for our usual chat. Stephen is such a nice man, always so welcoming and a great salesman. Next stop was Cahill Collars, the Burger stand as we were starving, and finished up at the outdoor clothing stand buying too much and penniless.

Matthew Downey provided a superb display of top class entertainment in the Ferret showing and racing ring. Matthew your show is a credit to you, very well run and most enjoyable. John Warrener Wray and his lovely family were there with boxes of Ferretts  and all winners.

Terriers/Paul Mc Alinden

Ferretts / Shane Burns

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Justin Hill, Ian Davidson and Ben Davidson you were simply the best. You run your show with impeccable organisation and skill. It was very evident a lot of preparation went on behind the scenes to make this show a most enjoyable day for everyone. All events went without a hitch, and some very happy people went home with another nice rosette or trophy for the mantle piece.

None of this would be possible if it were not for Gillian and Derek Lutton and your brilliant back up team. You sure know how to organise a Country Sports Fair. You left know  stone  unturned, and thank you most sincerely for the golden memories we have taken away with us. We all had a ball, and are already looking forward to more of the same in 2020.

NEW RULES FOR QUALIFYING FOR THE FIVE NATIONS TERRIER, WHIPPET & LURCHER CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE GREAT GAME FAIRS OF IRELAND 2020.
In future rather than shows in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales having to apply for qualifying status in advance and those competitors wishing to qualify sometimes having to travel considerable distances to try to qualify, we have decided that anyone whose dog is awarded the Championship or Res Championship at any show in the UK or Ireland, can claim a qualification for the Five Nations.
1.They can do this by the owner of the dog  emailing Tom or Albert to claim their qualification to irishcountrylifestyle@btinternet.com.
      2. The owner of the dog claiming the qualification must give details of the name and date of the event, the body organising the show,  the name of the dog and the owners name and contacts.
3.The claim must be made within 21 days of the event where the dog(s) won.
      4. Only the Champion and Reserve Champion qualify – dogs beaten by these dogs do not ‘step up’ on the basis that the winners are already qualified.
      5. The date of the  implementation of these new rules is from the 30th June 2019.
      6. We have had a system in place for some years whereby anyone actually present at the final can make an objection to the winner or reserve in the Five Nations or indeed any winner at the fair by making a formal objection and putting down a deposit of €50/£50. This will be returned if the objection is upheld. If the challenge fails the money will be donated to charity.  This will be the ONLY system of dispute that will be considered and no debate will be entered into over the results AFTER the event. This is the system used by the other sports and there are no unseemly disputes after these other competitions.
