my reloads .357

Recommended Posts

well as all other options have failed i had hoped my last resort was that my loading was to blame for not being able to shoot the .357 henry no more at 50m.all else had been checked so i put the gun on the old rest with the mag at 6x and the target at 50m and i fired 10shots to see if the gun was still working ok.results are.looks like it is the muppet behind the trigger as i can still take the bull out at 20y no problem but 50m,no chance. 727477946_newgroup005.JPG.5616cee94e2559cc6ab954c5e3db62c1.JPG

What is the load again?

My Winchester wasn't to keen with hornady xtp but pretty much any other brand of jacketed or plated bullets it would shoot tighter groups.

I didn't use cast.

Have tried keeping the barrel cool?

I don't know how the Henry locks up but later Winchester 94 actions suffer from a lack of hand finishing the final lock up and it affects accuracy. The fix is simple though.

load is 158gr hard cast tc,s with 4.35gr of bullseye, fiocchi primers and 1.57" o a l using cbc .357 mag brass.not tried plated jacketed bullets due to cost.the barrel does not get too hot due to the load and i do not shoot too fast.will look up the final lock up fix and see it it applies, cheers

In all honesty I would try a different powder.

Bullseye really is very fast and designed for pistol and revolver length barrels.

I never found cast bullets that came lubricated were lubricated with anything useful at all!

If that  hot bullseye is flame cutting up the side of the bullet your going to struggle to get a group.

Allot of folks add a buffer or wad between the bullet base and powder.

This can be almost anything but a favourite is cut cardboard  from cereal boxes. In your cases you would need a 9.5mm leather punch.

Another method is pouring melted candle wax and olive oil or beeswax and olive oil on grease proof paper. Add more paper on top and roll flat as it sets.

Stamp from that grease cookies that sit between bullet and powder.
