Abbeyleix Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 14th April 19

Abbeyleix  Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Hound Dog Show and Race Day . Sunday 14thApril 19

The quiet midland town of Abbeyleix came alive on Sunday morning 14thApril 19 with the echoes of barking dogs, as the Canine men and women from north and south of the border filled the field, for another days showing and racing at the now annual Abbeyleix Dog Show and Race day.

The weather was not kind to us on the day, with continuous heavy rain and cold winds for most of the day.

We arrived in the field around 10.00am, with a trouble free journey down to Abeyleix. Walking around the field I could see the rain was not going to dampen the spirits of our great huntsmen and women. It was evident after the long winter in the field, the time had come to allow their Canine friends a day out and to show off the other side of their talents in the show ring.

The rings were well spaced out, with a brilliant race track , some lovely rosettes and trophies and loads of dog meal for our winning pooches.

Families and children were out in force, with all the fun of the fair for the wee people. There was a bouncy castle, chip van, ice cream van, and stalls with plenty of hunting gear, dog leads, and every thing for all aspects of Country Sports and Country Life.

Time passes so quickly, and very soon it was time for showing and racing.

A Big Congratulations to Jed and Adrienne and all above winners.

And Finally, on behalf of Brian and Charmaine, a big thank you to the judges for job well done. A very special word of thanks to a very talented photographer Jim Mulcahey, the other half of these two brilliant photographers, for the lovely photographs. We wish Jims wife Ann Marie a speedy recovery and hope to see you around the  ring again with your camera very soon.

And Finally, Finally, despite the terrible weather at Sundays show, Brian and Charmaine Grady and team, you produced a brilliant top class show, and sent some happy campers and their canine friends  home with pride in their hearts, dog food, and an armful of trophies.

It was evident a lot of sleepless nights and hard work went into getting this show together, but Brian and Charmaine you pulled it off 100%.

Thank you for your friendship on Sunday, and I look forward to going back to Abbeyleix in 2020 for more of the same

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
