Gin 503
I don't understand why rescues won't rehome to working homes and even less why they won't rehome a dog that's not going to be worked anyway. As Missie says there are occasional heated debates on Lurcher Link but it's a much more tolerant environment than the others and a number of members there do hunt.North Lakes Rescue, which may not exist anymore, used to rehome to working homes too. Hope your OH finds her dog and I agree you shouldn't hide what you do. There's no need for such a division between rescues and working homes, in fact many people do both and unless we're upfront about that all the myths will continue. I havent had enough experience with dog rescues & there '' policys'' but i do know about ferret rescues, and i can say off the top of my head i can think of one who WILL home to ferreters and there Mercia ferret welfare in Coventry, but what i object to is the fact some just will not home to a ferreter full stop, regardless of the fact the ferret in 99% of the time will get a perfectly good home, be worked in season & treated as a ferret not as a substitute child. I could go on forever listing my dislikes about the ferret world but its pointless , one thing i will say is theres a lot of ''back yard '' rescue goes on, nowt wrong with that providing records are kept as i was stung once before & donated money to find out i was basically just helping a '' dear old lady'' keep her PETS in food etc, if it had been made known to me thats what i was doing i wouldnt have objected as she genuinly cared but i did find that her collecting of animals was what i can only see as a sort off illness So i think its worth looking into each different '' group organisation '' and sort the wheat from the chaff Hi Kay Can i just mention,- we run the North East Ferret Rescue, and we do home to a working home, or pet home ,- all we ask is that the ferret is properly cared for, and gets plenty of exercise. I tend to prefer a working home, as the animal is going to "get out". We do raise money at shows but that is only for vets bills that can be expensive, all other costs,- food, bedding, cages etc we pay ourselves. We do not object to anyone seeing our books if they wish to do so. I often get asked to rehome dogs also, and again if possible its to a working home if its a good home. Our rescue only started because we took in some cruelty cases. This reply is only to inform people we will re-home to a working home.
