scottishlass 57
Last night i a few people round for drinks my sister came but she had to bring her bairn which was fine.I was a bit worried how my terriers react to a load of folk in the house,my terriers live inside as the kennels outside are full of my other half working border collies.Well everyone arrived the oldest terrier was acting like a puppy trying to lick everyone she got sick of that and went to sleep. My youngest terrier hates loads of folk and went to go into her crate because she feels safe in her own little space that was fine untill the bairn was trying to get in the crate aswell i told my sister that it would be a good idea to get the bairn away from the crate as i could see the dog was not happy about is ,the reply i got from my sister was "she will be alright its only wisp she wont bite" after 3 times of telling my sister i got up and took the bairn away .If the dog had bitten her it folk would have said it was not the bairns fault it would have been the dogs it makes me when folk wont listen what would have happened if the dog did bite?????? Malt 379
Your absolutly right. You know your dogs better than anybody. It would be different if your dogs were brought up with kids, but terriers can be funny buggers about their beds/personal spaces at the best of times, especially with people from 'outside' your close family, even if they know them quite well. What I mean by outside, is people that don't live with you.
Simoman 110
I have young children and trust my dogs as much as a dog can be trusted, I never put my dogs or kids in a situation where there could be a problem. The dogs are supervised with the kids. They are kenneled but do come in the house occasionally, I have had a few dog bites and realise the damage they can do, my sister had surgery on her face after a bite from a bearded collie when she was a baby. Rolfe 2
Hi SL, This is a very common problem with dogs, family and liitle ones......no one takes a blind bit of notice until something happens........but then its too late of course. You only have to look at the recent news to see what can happen in extreme circumstances with children and dogs. Anyway.......everything was fine in the end......but i for one am always wary of the possible consequences where dogs and kids are concerned. Kind Regards Rolfey. BlueCoyote 0
you did the right thing and i cant believe your sister and her attitude about this.... like i said in another thread... there are always common factors in dog bite incidents. a good majority involve small children, and stupid adults.. which is a pity for the children and dogs. i love my dogs and trust them to a certain extent, but there is no way i would leave them alone with any kid of any age. i have a hard enough trusting my dogs alone with adults. last time i did that one dog wound up dead in my house while i was out of town.
