DWTC Dog Show and Race day at Sandy Heaks Modern farm in Scarva Sunday 13th May 18

Up bright and early Sunday morning with the “The Dog Chorus “ howling  sweet music in our ears, whilst making  sure the whole neighborhood was aware, it was their day out at the annual DWTC Dog Show and Race day at Sandy Heaks Modern farm in Scarva, Co Down

As we arrived at the venue, we were enchanted by the beauty of this County Down country side. The field was in mint condition with show rings and race course ready to go, to host another days enjoyment at this now superb popular venue.

There was an exceptionally large turnout of Whippets, Lurchers, Terriers and Strong dogs, backed up with glorious sunshine for most of the day. There was a lovely atmosphere, with many country sportsmen and women, parents and children, all enjoying themselves in the summer sunshine.

You could buy dog meal, dog rugs, collars mussels and leads, burgers and minerals at the many stands situated around the field.

Very soon it was Raffle time, and you could taste the buzz of excitement in the air around Scarva. The raffle has now become a very important part of our shows and brings out the gambler in most of us. As the saying goes, the craic was mighty.

As this show was a Master Mc Grath and Mick the Miller qualifier, all dogs were in top condition and all rearing to have a go at these two prestigious events. Each year the DWTC goes from strength to strength and this year was no different.

Time flies by so quick when you are having fun, and very soon it was Showing and Racing Time.

The showing kicked off with the childrens handling class. I was given the honour of judging this class, and what a class that was. These young handlers are our sportsmen and women of tomorrow, and as usual all well versed in handling their faithful canine friends. In my eyes you were all winners on the day. Here are the Showing and Racing results. Hope I have got them all right.

Many thanks to Sandy Heak for the brilliant venue. Without your generosity Sandy, this day would not of been possible .

And Finally, I always leave the best to last. I must not forget the man and woman at the helm of this brilliant show day. Tom and Leanne Barry, with your family Morgan and Ethan, and your brilliant back up team, you made everybody so welcome. It was very evident a lot of hard work and organisation was carried out behind the scenes to make your show so enjoyable and successful on the day.

Tom and Leanne, thank you so much for a most memorable day, and I look forward  to more of the same in 2019.

 Margaret Mc Stay

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
