tsteve9999 456
Finally got out with the ferrets for only the fourth time this year today, and had a good time although I only had 4. As I walked the pathway along the first hedgerow the dog put one up that left him for dead then another that he caught, so I was off to the best start possible. He then put up another that I saw drop into what looked like a dead ender so I popped a ferret in expecting to hear a sqeal straight away, only to see the rabbit appear out of a pop up about 15 yards away in the field and dissapear. I switched the locater on and found the "dead ender" was actually a part of a warren on the other side of the pathway and the ferret looked like she was on something. Digging down revealed no ferret or rabbit, she'd thrown her bloody collar off and was now wandering round a big unnetted warren in the hedgerow without it. So after finding the collar I was left walking up and down waiting anxiously for her to make an appearance, which she did after bolting another 1 that escaped by sticking to the centre of the hedge giving the dog no real chance. Walking down to the next warren I netted it up and put the other jill in, and within 5 minutes I had 2 more in the bag. I decided to do one last smaller warren and took one from that so I was happy enough to call it a day, but the dog marked what looked like a run through so I scrambled through the hedge to drop a net on the back hole only to see the rabbit fly out of the other end. The dog got a good run on it but he lacks a gear on these places where the fields are grazed like a golf course and it escaped. Quote Link to post

tsteve9999 456
I'd do a lot more at this particular place but nearly all the hedges need 2 people to work them and I haven't been able to get anyone who can come midweek to give me a hand. I never have that many, I think 7 is the most I've ever had, but I always catch and because I'm the only one working it and they are undisturbed there are always rabbits above ground, so the dog gets a few runs even though he doesn't catch many. 2 Quote Link to post
