Tully Castle Dog Show and Festival

Saturday 12th August 17

I never grow tired of the scenic views and history that surrounds this little piece of heaven called Tully Castle. Sitting on Tully Point and tucked away in the County Fermanagh Country side, this was the venue for Tully Castle Festival and Dog Show Saturday 12th August 17.

We set out fine and early with no dogs for a change, as my husband John Mc Stay was judging at the show. After meeting up with some canine friends along the way, we had breakfast and then headed on to Enniskillen and Tully Castle. As usual, we were first in the field with the exception of the stand holders.

When we arrived, we had our yearly trip up around the Castle. Mindful of these ruins been steeped in history, within those historic walls I could hear in my minds ear the sound of voices in the air, of a house and family that lived there long, long, time ago.

From 12noon onwards the crowds began to arrive, and by show time the grounds of the Castle came alive with the sound of barking dogs of all breeds.

There was a Bouncy Castle, walking Balls, and many other activities for the children to enjoy. An ice cream and burger van was on site as well as many stands with craft and jewellery, and some very tasty home produced food.

We basked all day in the glorious sunshine, while the Churchill band serenaded all at the festival in true summer time style. As the beautiful strains of Danny Boy rang out over the Fermanagh countryside, this beautiful music added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the Dog Show and Festival.

Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself and very soon it was showing time.

Here are the Overall showing Results:

A Big Congratulations to all above Champions and winners, and all who took part on the day, well done.

May I take this opportunity to thank the judges on the day.

John Mc Stay Whippets/ Lurchers. Gene Gallagher/Terriers for a job well done. Judging is not an easy task, but you carried out your duties firm and fair.

As in every year gone past, I must not forget to thank Norma Heap and her PA system, for announcing the names and results of the showing without a hitch. Over the years Norma you have done a wonderful job and the show would not be the same without you. With your friendly voice you keep us all on our toes and many thanks for that.

And Finally, I dandered around the rings and took some photographs of all our moments of glory with my mobile. Billy Harpur was there also and added the professional touch to the photography on the day. All these photographs are on my Face Book timeline at the moment.

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. I would like to thank the festival committee Norma Heap/Emily Hall/Nicola Heap/Sue Hogg/Gillian Carroll/Wesley Scott and other names I do not have. It was evident there was great teamwork on the day, and success shone through in abundance at this festival.

And now to the king of Tully Castle himself Scott Fallis. You made everybody so welcome, your dog show ran so smoothly and was a credit to your organisational skills, and above all the whole day was most enjoyable.

As the long dark days of winter are closing in on us, and the show scene is coming to an end for another year, we will look back with fond memories of our day out at Tully Castle Dog Show.

Scott, we really enjoyed the show and the beauty of Tully Castle, and look forward to more of the same in 2018 God willing.

Margaret Mc Stay

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
