Nik_B 3,791
I was trying to explain to the missus my work schedule but we have such weird terminology, especially Skidding the rig is a phrase we use to describe moving the rig from one wellhead to the next. I decided to show her what it mean to skid the rig and found this time lapse footage on youtube. In the US they drill two wells on each pad which covers a lease of land, they will drill one in one direction and the other 180 degrees the opposite direction and each pad has two wellheads. We drill one section of hole, run casing and cement it and while the cement is setting they will skid over to the next wellhead to do the same using the second wellhead. When they finish drilling both wells they will rig move over to the next lease and start again. Anyway I thought this might be interesting to some people. Here's the rig skidding. A full rig move in time lapse is like this, takes a few days depending on distance.

I love watching the time lapse videos though, it's really cool how they move those rigs, I'd never seen anything like it before.
