The Sporting Whippet Club NI 2nd Dog Show of 2017 Sunday 7th May.

The due was still on the freshly mowed grass, as we arrived at Dunsilly Kennells, Dunsilly, Co Antrim, on a fine Spring Sunday morning for the 2nd Sporting Whippet Club dog show and race day of 2017. It was not long to the sun broke through the clouds, cars and trailers started to arrive, sun parasols were going up everywhere, and very soon we were basking in mediterrian like weather in the beautiful Antrim countryside.

There was a good turnout of whippets, with twelve to fourteen dogs in the ring at any one time. It was nice to see so many young pups coming along, and proved the whippet community is growing bigger from year to year. Again this year there are many new faces in the crowd and many new club members.

The wee people were well catered for with a chippy van on site. Some tasty burgers and curry to die for. The raffle was just as popular as ever, with Nikki Fyffe and John Mc Stay winning everything in sight. Gladys Savage was well pleased with winning a pack of beer, and the icing on the cake for Alec and Gladys was their top whippet Billy BOB winning his grade in the racing .

Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself, and very soon it was show time. Here are the results :

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
