How old is the old lurcher? When you say you have had to separate them what do you mean exactly? Are they in the house, kennelled? Are you giving the old dog less attention now the pup is here? Is the old dog getting less exercise? And now that you've wormed the dog let's see if there is an improvement over the next few days. If there isn't then I suggest you take him to the vet. If the dog is still eating normally then cancer is a possible cause for weight loss, not wishing to alarm you, but it is a possibility, as is stress from the new pup.

Make sure you keep things as normal as possible for the old dog and give it the same attention and exercise as before: may be more work but I'd say you owe it to the oldie to make its last years as good as possible.

Yes he is brinng up a vile yellow vomit?

VET`S it is but will or would at his age the puppy be to blame because there has never been another dog in the house while he`s been here and now his life has changed??

that could be part of the problem, yes. i've seen older dogs get grouchy, moody, bad attitudes when a new puppy is brought in. especially if that one was used to being the only dog until that point. i've even heard about older dogs killing a new pup. the people living across the street from me now had an older german shepherd bitch savage a brand new 8 week old pup. the old man got his gun and shot the shepherd dead where she stood then picked the puppy up, thinking it was dead, and put it in the garbage bin by the road... then someone heard the pup scratching around in there. they saved the puppy but the shepherd had crossed the line in attacking and trying to kill it.

i didnt see how old you said the pup is. i once had a chow/akita that tried to do the same thing with a doberman puppy i had. my sister was walking the chow and i had the dobie pup (just a little guy) on his leash when the chow went nuts trying to drag herself over to the puppy. she had a super high prey drive though.. she would kill anything if it stood still long enough... freakin crazy dog..

with old dogs mate it realy do pay to give them the most basic off foods.

a ce'real based diet would, with a low protine content give the dog all he needs.

to mutch meat based protine would have the opposite effect on the dog and you will see the weight fall off him.

thier body cant cope with high protien, so they may shit it out like water, or spew it up.

mind you i aint no vet,but i would think its common sence

oh good, but try him on a dry food with a protine level of about 12% and within a few weeks you may see a change.

mind you some say that dried foods help damage the liver and kidneys in dogs,so a long feeding program, with a high protine diet may be

responsable for the early deaths in some dogs fed only on prosessed feeds
