Fao Born Hunter.....

I know you're into your plane spotting, I'm working on the railway at North Kelsey Moor in Lincolnshire. For the last few weeks on a Thursday I've noticed what looks like the new Rivot Joint surveillance aircraft circling for hours to the north-east of me, it also looks like it could be landing in that direction. When I look on the maps though, the only airfield in that direction is Humberside Airport, do the RAF still use the place?????

Maybe someone else will know, but looking at a map I've seen AWACS doing the same as far from Waddo as the Rivet you saw. I'll take a shot and say it landed there. I know a man who will know for sure mind....

I'm not sure if you've misunderstood me. I'm well aware they're easy to tell apart, lol. I mentioned AWACS because they're based at Waddo with the Rivets and all other ISTAR assets and I've seen them as far away circling prior to landing, therefore suggesting that the Rivet in question could easily have been waiting to land at Waddo.

Waddington is base for all the RAFs ISTAR stuff to my knowledge. I often see AWACS circling readying to land there and I'm usually miles away to the south and west.

That's what I'm saying from where I'm standing Waddington is to my south-west, the plane is circling to my north-east and occasionally disappears over the horizon towards Humberside Airport. It's either landing or doing some serious descending.

At a guess it's preparing to land at Waddington. They do massive circuits waiting to land, often very low. I've seen the AWACS doing the same as far away as Nottingham/Loughborough. You're no further from Waddington than that really. All RAF ISTAR aircraft are based there so it seems most plausible.

Perhaps someone else knows and wants to chip in???
