young1982 1
Next year I’m applying for a variation on my firearms certificate so that I can have a centrefire rifle, which I’ll use mainly for foxes, target shooting and when funds let me a bit of stalking. BASC recommend that I join the NRA and a target-shooting club because after doing this there should be on reason why I shouldn’t get it granted. Taking everything into account would a .243 be a good choice for that sort of shooting? I’m flying solo down hear so any help would be appreciated Cheers all Quote Link to post

If you have land permission with deer and some deer experience and/or a DSC1 you may get a .243 for deer. You will NOT get a .243 for Target shooting unless you are a member of an approved club, as a member of an approved club you will become a member of the NRA because the NRA are doing all the ranges these days not the MOD. Think about a .223, that is fine for fox, small deer and target and may just be a little easier to get than a .243, you are never going to get a 22-250 for target as it exceeds the speed regulations on all approved ranges which only leaves the .222 (enough said). The police interpret the regulations differently in every region so nothing is ever certain. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
young you would have to think were are you going to spend most of your time on the range or out in the field if the ansewer is the later then, no doubt try and get the .243, after all if you join a target club and the nra and have the land to shoot over i don't think it should be a problem, if they turn you down find out why and if they stick to there guns......get the .223, simple.
