martin 332
Hi all,my 6 1/2 mth old bitch whippet pup woke up yesterday morning with a limp to her front right leg.I haven't actually seen her knock it at all, but,I just assume she has,or pulled a muscle. There is no swelling at all that I can see, and, she bites me when I touch her inside toe.She did seem to be a bit better this morning, but,I didn't let her run too hard just a bit of light jogging, after a walk of about 2 1/2hrs she did start limping again. What I want to know is......is there something that you use to rub in(like embrocation)that might help? I don't think it is too bad, but,I read on a forum that some people after a hard run....rub there dogs down with something, and,I was wondering if this might help.......it is my first running dog,so,who better to ask than the professionals!!!...............thanks in advance..............martin. skycat 6,174
It sounds like she has either broken or dislocated her toe. Or has she smashed/cracked a claw? If it is the toe itself then NO RUNNING FOR 3 WEEKS AT LEAST! Bones take 6 weeks to heal properly, dislocations almost as long if the tendons have been really damaged. Of course it could just be bad bruising. Lead walking only. Try and get her to a greyhound vet or back man to check her out properly. Failing that then an ordinary vet should be able to tell you more than you know already. Quote Link to post
poacher9991 10
REST THE DOG UP FOR A FEW WEEKS IT SHOULD BE ALRIGHT AFTER THAT Quote Link to post
youth 0
hi martin , i would be inclined give her a rest for a few days or a week , at that age bones / joints are still growing , give here a rest and she,ll be fine shes proberly knock her toe ..... at 6.5 months theres no rush , all the best , Quote Link to post
MATTI 34
As above, REST REST REST!!! The last thing i would do is walk a dog for 2 1/2 hour's that i knew was limping let alone a light jog. But i'm pretty sure it will come right. Quote Link to post
