Donnells Working Dog Show And Race Day Sunday 14H August 16

Recommended Posts

Donnells Working Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 14th August 16.

Larne is a seaport and industrial market town, on the east coast of County Antrim. It has been used as a seaport for over 1,000 years, and is today a major passenger and freight roll on- roll off port. This thriving town was the venue where William Donnell and his father Ronnie decided to hold their first ever Working Dog Show and Race day in their own native home town of Larne.

As it was a new venue, we started off early, switched on our Sat Nav, and headed down the motorway, After a few winding country roads with various twists and turns, Mrs Sat Nav announced we had reached our destination. It was not long to the field began to fill up with barking dogs and trailers.

For a first time show, there was a good crowd of canine folk, all out for a good days showing and racing with like minded people. The weather was good and the atmosphere electric. A chip van/Ice Cream Van and toilet facilities on site. The children loved the Ice Cream and grown ups the burgers.

Ronnie Donnells PA System was a great acid to the show and kept everybody well informed of the days happenings. Ronnie you are a natural, and done a great job on the day. Time passed so quickly and very soon it was showing Time.

A Big Congratulations to all above Champions and well done.

I have only a few Racing Results. Maybe William will post them Later.

Alec and Gladys Savges Whippet Billy Bob romped home with a first, closely followed by their other dog Norah.

Congratulations Alec and Glayds and well done.

The Raffle generated a lot of excitement as the various numbers were called out. I love this part of the show scene. We were one of the lucky ones and went home with a big bag of nuts. Big John got over excited, as he always does at Raffle time. He cries his eyes out if he does not win.

And Finally, from an on lookers point of view I must praise the judges on the day for a job well done. Lerroy Mc Cullough Whippets/Rab Moore Terriers/William J Simpson Handling Class/William Jenkins Strong Dogs . Judging is not an easy job at any time, but you carried out your duties with precision and care.

JOE c Photography took some lovely shots of our Canine friends on the day and can be seen on his site on Facebook. Billy Harpur was there with his camera clicking away, and I took some myself with my mobile. All on my timeline on Facebook.

Finally, Finally, what can I say about this young man William Donnell that would praise him enough. William for a first time show you were on the ball, and left nothing out. Everything went like clock work. It was evident you had a few sleepless nights, and a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes to make this Show day an overwhelming success.

You have a lovely family behind you and stood by you as your back up team at your show. Your dad Ronnie is a gentleman, was courteous and kind to everyone, and worked tirelessly on the day for your benefit. William keep up the good work and please God we will all be back next year to support your show and enjoy more of the same again.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
