Tully Castle Dog Show.

 

We looked forward to Tully Castle Dog Show all year, and finally the day arrived last Saturday the 13^th August. We set out fine and early with trailer and dogs in tow, and arrived at the Castle at approx. 11.00am. As usual, we were first there with the exception of the organisers and stand holders for the day. I never grow tired of the scenic views and history that surrounds this little piece of heaven, tucked away in the County Fermanagh Country side.

 

Tully Castle is a castle situated on Blaney Bay on the southern shore of Lower Lough Erne. With its magnificent grounds rolling down to the shores of Lough Erne, this was the venue for Tully Castle Dog Show, and what a venue that was.

 

Around 1pm the crowds began to arrive, and by show time the grounds were full of barking dogs of all breeds.

 

The little people were out in force too. As well as showing their faithful Canine friends in the show ring, there was a Bouncy Castle, and many other activities to help them along the way of enjoying their day out at Tully Castle. Some tired little feet on Saturday night.

 

As I walked around the show rings I met up with some regular show goers, and also spoke to some new people on the scene. One young lady Veronika Cermakova, travelled all the way from Naas Co Kildare with her beautiful black and white Lurcher, to be at this now famous Dog Show. What a lovely young lady and I must say from chatting to her, she really has got hooked in the canine world. Greg Murphy, another great country sportsman, both on the show ground and in the field with his top lurchers, travelled from Donegall and went home with an armful of trophies.

 

Poor Billy Harpur got stuck in Beleek at a closed road sign, and had to go the long way around to get to the venue. But, Billy and Kirsty being the true canine folk they are, battled on, and arrived just in time for the start of the showing.

 

The weather kept up all day, as the Churchill band serenaded the festival in true summer salsa time. These beautiful tunes added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the Dog Show and Festival.

And Finally, May I take this opportunity to thank the judges on the day. Tracy Gill Whippets/ Janet Duke Lurchers/Terrier judge, and the judges in ring 2 for a job well done. I must not forget Norma Heap and her PA system, for announcing the names and results without a hitch. You did a wonderful job Norma. The show would not be the same without you.

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. I would like to thank Scott Fallis and Wesley Scott and their most efficient committee for another great show and festival. You made everybody so welcome, and that I thank you for sincerely.

 

As the long dark days of winter will be closing in on us shortly, and the work in the field will begins, I will look back with fond memories of our day at Tully Castle Dog Show.

 

I really enjoyed the show and the beauty of Tully Castle, and look forward to more of the same next year God willing.
