Tullylish Working Terrier Club Dog Show and Race Day Saturday 6th August 16

 

Our rickity alarm clock went off bright and early on Saturday morning, loyally carrying out its duty to get us out of bed, feet on the floor, and on our way to the Tullylish Working Terrier Club Dog Show and Race Day.

 

After answering the call of the dog chorus, very soon we were on our short journey to Tullylish, and another day out at the summer time Country Sport I truly love . The weather was good for most of the day, with the exception of a few light showers in the morning.

 

As we approached the field, it was nice to see so many show goers at this show, and also some new people making their debut into the canine world. That is why I love the show scene and doing my show write ups. I meet so many nice appreciative and interesting people along the way, who love their dogs, love to hunt, show, talk, and race their Canine friends in the appropriate seasons of the year.

 

As the Canine men, women and their little folk arrived in force with their prized Canine crew in tow, it was evident of the popularity of this brilliant show. There was a Chip Van/Ice Cream Van, and toilet facilities on site. Numbers were up again this year in the showing and racing, and all rings and races filled with top quality dogs.

 

 

Over the past years, during the summer dog show season, our shows have become real family days out. This was plain to see on Saturday by the turnout of families on the day. There was just a lovely homely atmosphere, good craic, great venue and a few chin whacks with the good folk of the Canine community.

 

Making my way around the rings, I bumped into Chris Hallissey and his mates from lurgan. These guys were on a mission to enjoy themselves at the show, and enjoy they did. All good country sportsman fun. Me being a little older, I really love the respect these young people show to me. I can have a good laugh with them too. All great guys, and the same with all the country sports people I deal with.

 

Karen, Adam and Peter Cummins came all the way from Carlow, and went home with an armful of trophys. Well done team Cummins. Sam White was there with his prized plummer Terrier. Joe and Fionbar Leonard was on a winning streak to, as was Mickey Quinn with his Bull Cross Lurcher Hoss.

 

The coursing started at approx 12.00 noon.

 

***Overall Coursing Champion was won by up and coming young Sportsman Adam Hughes and his racing supremo Nellie. Congratulations Adam and well done. ***

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes John Barry, you and your team are simply the best. You run your show with impeccable organisation and skill and a superb venue this year. It was very evident a lot of preparation went on behind the scenes to make this show a most enjoyable day for everyone. All events went without a hitch, and some very happy people went home with another nice trophy for the mantle piece.

 

John, you are not just a good friend, you are a gentleman and an honest and true Country Sportsman. Thank you, and the Tullylish Working Terrier Club for another top class show this year, and hopefully we can enjoy more of the same again in 2017.
