Just an open query to my fellow long netters out there....!

Does anyone know a successful method of hardening the pointed end of long net setting pegs.

For years i have been blackening the points of my hazel pegs in the fire.......this does seem to work for a while.

I just wondered if anyone knew of another method of hardening the points?

I look forward to recieving a flood of answers :hmm::hmm::hmm:

Regards

Do you really need to harden them. I thought that was the whole idea of using hazel as it light when dried and quite tough anyway. Why complicate things?

Dry them out point them and if you really feeling really posh round the tops of them. As for grooves why bother. I just use castartion rings. Opps let a secret slip there.

THANKS RO..........for that info.

it's just that hardening the points in the fire stops them freying and splitting at the bottom end for a while longer.

it's just as easy to re-sharpen them i suppose........!

thanks for the input anyway.
