liongeorge 7
Hi guys, I have a pregnant gill due at the end of the week. She lives in a large cage with one other gill and a nest box. Do I need to separate the other gill off before she gives birth or can I leave them in together. James McKays book says it's ok to leave them in together but I'm not sure. Also what's the best bedding? I was thinking shredded paper or something they won't get lost in. Do you suplimentary feed in pregnancy and after, what sort of things? Cheers George Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
Shredded paper is fine. I always separate mine sometime other Jills can eat the newborn. better to do it a few weeks before but better late than never. If you are going to,leave the pregnant one in the cage she is familiar with. jmo Quote Link to post

rabbit demon 302
I had to up the poultry in my ferrets diet as one of my kits got eaten this year. Was feeding mostly rabbit before. Still have the rest thankfully. I find my jills do better when fed on chicken and fill out quicker. As for having the jills in together depends on the jills. Iv never had a problem with them being in together but i would breed 2 at the same time, leave them in and let both raise them. 1 Quote Link to post
