The Sporting Whippet Club NI Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 24th April 16.

Sunday the 24th April 16 was the first show of the year for The Sporting Whippet Club NI, at Dumbo Park Racing Stadium, and what a day that was. Dumbo Park provides the unique combination of being interesting, educational, very enjoyable, and a real punters paradise. Although the sun shone all day, it was still a day for warm clothing.

It was nice to see such a good turnout of Whippets at this first show of the year. The amount of Whippet pups in the ring this year is just amazing, and all top quality pups. The whippet breed has grown from strength to strength, and has really taken off in the last ten years.

When we started to show Whippets back in the day, we were lucky to see two or three whippets in the ring at the open shows up and down the country. Now there is anything up to eighteen whippets in a class, as was at Dumbo Park on Sunday. Changing times, and all good for this beautiful all round breed of dog in the Canine world.

Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself, and very soon it was time to start the showing and racing at Drumbo.

****The Overall Show Champion of Champions, and qualifier for the 5 Nations Champion Whippet at Shanes Castle went to a well deserved winner ****

**Kirsty Fyffe with Brock

Reserve Champion
**Janet Duke with Oscar

A Big Congratulations to both ladies and well done.

( A full set of results both for showing and racing will be published on our Sporting Whippet time line shortly )

Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank our judge of the day, Jed Donagh for carrying out his duties with impeccable judgment, fairness and good taste. I cannot forget our chairman, Janet Duke, Vice Chairman, John Mc Stay, Secretary Kirsty Fyffe, Treasurer Susan Mc Cann , Patsy Mc Coy, racing manager, Brian Crothers and their hard working committee for the running of a very successful first show of 2016.

Deirdre Mc Coy and Ian Boyd took some lovely photograph full of happy memories.

And Finally, Finally there are two people I cannot praise enough for their kindness and generosity in our hour of need. Davy Boyd and his lovely wife Kate, came to the rescue and gained permission from the management of Drumbo Park for the Sporting Whippet club NI to have their show at the magnificent Drumbo Park. Davy and Kate without your thoughtfulness , there would have been no show on Sunday, and for this we will be forever in your debt. Many, Many thanks Davy and Kate.

The 2nd Sporting Whippet Club NI show of the year will be on Sunday 22nd May 2016. Venue to be agreed. See you all then.

Margaret Mc Stay

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
