Here's A Nice Old Old Trap ...

Recommended Posts

Any tweaking suggestions for an old beauty

Not so much a tweak but my personal preference is a trap that came to be know in Yorkshire as the "Hey up and Away" . It was very popular with the farming fraternity who named it the GOML or "Get Orf Moi Land".

Based around the trebuchet principle the trap would sling the mole high into the air upon the trap being sprung, in fact they were a firm favourite with Churchill who had a secret mole breeding programme in selective locations around the British coast. Doing so meant that several moles a minute could be slung up to disturb the engines of the raiding Luftwaffe bringing down more enemy aircraft than Hurricanes, Spitfires and anti-aircraft guns put together.

It's really amazing how much work, craftsmanship and raw steel went into some of these old traps. We manufacture a mole trap that weighs 1.3 ounces, and I'd like to reduce that to under 1.0 ounce. It really is surprising how stuff used to be made.
