Cat And Mouse

Soon as we entered the wood this morning a rabbit nipped across in front of us. The dog hadn't seen it but he scented and back tracked it and marked. I ran the ferret through in case there was second but nothing else at home.

He tried to follow it the right direction but I stopped him as there was a load of horses in the field and I didn't want that lot galloping about.

Next bit of cover in the corner of a field he could scent a rabbit so I started ploughing into the cover and saw a rabbit sneak out behind the dog and nip into the hedge. I put the dog onto it and he started tracking it down the hedge row. There is hardly any holes in the hedge and a river at the end so the rabbit was running out of options. I saw him right down the bottom nip out and back in. I had a cunning thought that I should nip over and run out a short net because chances are the rabbit would break the other side and go back to where he started. Sure enough I heard a splash splash the other side and thought dam it I should have run the net out. We followed it back up and lost the sod lol

Into the next bit of wood and things started to pick up. The dog flushed one from under a log and marked it ground in a set of holes we did a few weeks ago.

I put the old jill in and she soon got the rabbit out for us.

Along a nice bit of hedge then the dog got on a scent and gave a good mark. Tried the young jill and she got on the case and rabbit number two bagged. Started lashing it down then so home for coffee
