Gaz_1989 9,539
My brindle bitch went through a "deaf stage" when we got her at 6 weeks. Genuinely thought she might be deaf at first. Then she had another one at about 7-9 months. Just try not to lose your temper. Edited to add she is deer/collie/whip/grey. 1 Quote Link to post
Stud dog 632
The key thing I think is the dogs got to want to be with you so try an make yourself as fun as possible that the pup wants to be with you I often get some chicken in my hand let the pup smell it then take a walk round garden shout her over give her a piece then repeat a couple of time what youll find is the pup will start to follow you everywhere after a period of time goid luck with the pup Edited September 14, 2015 by Stud dog 1 Quote Link to post
Anthony Simmons 22
I have a sal/dh/gh and found him to get bored easily while training, I tried with treats and found he was more focused on the treats instead of me ( dropping retrieve short in anticipation of the treat) I stopped treats and I change what he was retrieving after the 3rd throw and retrieve just to keep him engaged, first a ball of socks, rabbit skin and teddy's, he's 9 1/2 month now and retrieves everything from golf balls to space hoppers lol , I've found although he thinks he's ready to progress he's still not matured enough, I've also found them to be very intelligent he won't sit while my jrt around while retrieving in the yard as he knows the jrt will get it first...also don't batter her to much with training just do it now and then and you'll find she'll come on alot better Atb with the training fella and hope all goes well ant Quote Link to post
Hunting loon 100
All good advise guys and I notice her attention span is very limited so I haven't done a lot with her but I think she could end up being too clever for her own good lol Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
Small slow steps at ten weeks plenty of time. I wouldnt over do training. Get them to do something once loads of reward and leave it there. Let it build up over time. They suit this type of training over the persistant drown of commands off owner as your just get anouying to the pup. In time you will have a biddable animal. Quote Link to post
