Welsh_red 5,085
Been doing some stone work with my boss on a farmers entrance and this morning he took us to his father in laws old farm . The house is still active but theirs no more farming done from the place . The boss was off doing his thing chatting about the work and i had a little wander by a field that runs by the track . As the wife was driving down the track a fox was running a fair bit in front of her up to the house . The fox came within 1 metre of me and ran off out into the fields . It had a huge gash on its hind legs . I asked the wife if she had shot it and she hadnt even seen him running down the track . We got to talking and i told her i was getting my shotgun licence in a few weeks and she said " bring it up here and go shooting if you want" . Her and her husband have a small air rifle that they barely use and miles and miles of land that i could use to go shooting on . Now the fields by the start of the track are newly sown rape fields that have only a little green spouting through . She said that the ground was shit so they have put lime on it and arnt expecting a bumper crop first time around . She said if i wanted i could clear any pidgeons or birds that try to get at the crop . I dont have any friends who shoot pidgeons on crop fields as their few and far between here . Mostly animals in fields . Where do i start with shooting pidgeons on crop fields . Im assuming a hide and some decoys etc . Im learning from scratch so any tips to stop me making mistakes from the beggining will be a great help. I will do my own research into it aswell before i start on it but people on here seem to be so passionate and involvd in their sport it would be stupid not to ask for opinions Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
I don't do a lot of shotgun work but my mate does and I tag along -he uses a "flapper" and a "whirly bird" with decoys and when it all comes together its fast & furious and very rewarding -I thought this looks easy lol I assure you its not !!!! I'll get a grip with it in the end just don't fancy starting off making mistakes that will effect the shooting of birdsnin thenlong térm Quote Link to post
