2 MORE GREAT DOG SHOWS THIS WEEK END

 

Sunday 5th July

Coolnakilla Harrier Club Dog Show and Sheep Dog Trials this Sunday at Rathcormac . Promises to be a great family day out. The show will be held in the Car boot sale field in Rathcormac. Classes for Terriers, Hounds and Lurchers. Show starts 12.30. Pet show starts at 2pm. So dont forget this Sunday, get the dogs ready and head for Rathcormac, Co Cork.

 

Sunday 5th July

David Dickinsons Charity Dog Show and Race Day at Rathnew, Co Wicklow. This show is run each year for Charity and draws a large crowd. 3 rings . One for Lurchers/Terriers and Whippets with full compliment of classes for each ring. Really looking forward to it.

Its the Dickenson Family Third Annual Flapping, Lurchers & Whippets Dog Show and will take place this year on Sunday 5th July at the same venue as last year - Websters Field, Glenealy Road. This has proved to be a very popular event and all proceeds are donated by the Dickenson Family to Wicklow Cancer Support. Wishing them a great turn out and good weather on the day. Come along and Support.

      A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
      As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
      Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.
       
      I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.
       
      Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .
       
      And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.
       
      Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

      I Am Free

      I took his hand when I heard him call

      To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play. 
      I found a peace at close of day.
      Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
      I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
      Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
      Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
      Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,  
      He set me free.
      John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
      May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.

      BURREN WORKING DOG SHOW 2025
      Hi folks just an update on our show,
      This show is without doubt Irelands largest fundraising dog show, in only four years of bringing this show back to life, we are very proud to have raised £41000 for cancer related charities…
      This year we returned to Daisy lodge cancer fund for children, a local charity that does amazing work for kids and families affected by cancer….  We smashed last years amount of £14000 to reach an outstanding £17000….  
       
      We would like to thank every person who has supported our show, sponsorsed and donated gifts for an amazing raffle..   We had over £1500s worth of prizes for the raffle….  A very special thanks to Margaret Mcstay for advertising, The legend dog racing team of the McGrath Family, Dwtc for ongoing support, And  Burren working dog show team.. Thanks everyone and roll on 2026….   A show not to miss
