The Sporting Whippet Club NI at Dunsilly Kennels, Antrim Sunday 21st June 15.

Up bright and early Sunday morning 21st June 15, with the “The Dog Chorus “ making the whole neighborhood aware it was their day out at the Sporting Whippet Club NI dog show and race day at Dunsilly Kennells Co Antrim. We arrived in the field at 10.30am, welcomed by the homely and comfortable surroundings of lovely Dunsilly.

There was an exceptionally large turnout of Whippets at Sundays show. Also in the ring were Baby pups and Pups along with their young handlers, our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. I can see some competition on the Whippet circuit in 2016 when all these beautiful baby pups and pups mature.

Jack Dumigan was so proud to be one of the winners in the childrens handling class with his whippet Mac on the day. Congratulations Jack and all the the rest of children in this class. You are all winners in my eyes.

 

Again this month it was so encouraging to see new faces at Dunsilly on Sunday, and all with new membership forms in their hand. It is unbelievable how much our membership has increased this year. We must be doing something right, and long may it continue.

 

At times there were some very heavy showers of rain, but this did not put loyal, regular members and new members from showing and racing their faithful Canine friends. The grading started at approximately 12.45pm, followed by the showing and Racing finals.

Very soon it was Raffle time, and you could taste the buzz of excitement in the air around Dunsilly. The raffle has now become a very important part and centre piece of our shows and brings out the gambler in most of us. There are some senior citizens who even get palpitations if and when their numbers are called. If they/he does not win, he sits in a corner and huffs and puffs for the rest of the day. We all know who he is. Woo Hooee.

 

As usual the showing and racing was star quality. Many thanks to the judge on the day Nicky Robinson for a job well done. Nicky you were very professional in your judgment, and again many thanks for that. Bluebell and myself took some photographs, and are up on my timeline at the moment.

 

And Finally, thanks to the Chairman of the club Paul Reynolds and Vice Chairman John Mc Stay, racing managers Patsy Mc Coy and Mickey Quinn, secretary Kirsty Fyffe, treasurer Carol Hill and our hard working committee for producing another great show and family day out. Looking forward to the same again next month
