The All Ireland lurcher, Terrier, and Whippet Club Charity Dog Show Sunday 31st May 15 ( Mickey Quinns Show )

Sunday 31st May 2015 exceeded all our expectations, when the Irish Lurcher , Terrier and Whippet Club held their Charity Dog Show and Race day at Annaghmore race track in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Nurses. With heavy continuous rain the night before, all hopes and dreams of a great show were dashed and fading fast. But as soon as dawn came over the horizon, a new and special day had surfaced.

The rain dramatically disappeared overnight, with the sun coming out to say hello with its very welcome smile. Yes Macmillan Charity Dog show day at Annaghmore was well and truly on its way. The show rings and Race Track was in tip top condition despite the heavy rain the night before, and it was not long to the buzz of the good Canine folk and brilliant supporters of the Macmillan charity went into action .

As the morning progressed, the crowds waded into Annaghmore from North and South of the border, and all with one thing in mind, to support the Macmillan Nurses, and the bonus at the end of the day, to qualify for the 5 Nations Whippet Champion and the Master Mc Grath at Shanes Castle . On both counts they were not disappointed.

I can honestly say I have never come across such a gathering of good natured and giving people all together at the same venue. It was a treat to be part of this

The morning progressed faster than the speed of sound, and very soon it was show time. Glen Doherty and Lesley Dumigan kicked the day off by organising and sponsoring the childrens handling class. It was very evident Lesley and Glen had put a lot of work into this class, making up goody bags, and making it a very joyous occassion for all the children. And what a treat that was. Great people and a lovely thought. Some very tired little feet at the close of day.

The Raffle as usual generated a flurry of excitement at the show. We had 20 prizes of wine , crystal, dog meal, dog leads , chocolates and many more. All the raffle prizes were donated by all the good Canine folk attending the show, and many, many thanks for that. It was so much appreciated.

Every day 23 people in Northern Ireland hear the devastating news , that they have cancer, and eleven people die from the illness. No one should face this illness alone. With the continued support of the people of Northern Ireland, Macmillan Cancer Nurses will be there for people with cancer, as well as their families and friends to help them in their hour of need. Hopefully, our cheque for £1,200, the proceeds from Sundays dog show will help in some small way. Thanks to Daphne Kilpatrick from the Macmillan Cancer Nurses, for coming to the show and accepting our Cheque. It was much appreciated.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the Judges on the day. Lesley Dumigan Childrens Handling Class/Janet Duke Whippets/ Tom Barry Lurchers/ Breandan Coleman Terriers/ Terence Metcalfe Strong Dogs. An excellent remit was carried out by all

Bluebell and Billy Harpur were there with there cameras to capture the ambience of the day.

The Racing was run by the Combined Clubs and Needless to say it went like clockwork, without a hitch on the day.

Mickey Quinn has asked me to thank most sincerely on his behalf all our sponsors and the people who supported show, Sponsors Listed below for the All Ireland Working Terrier/Lurcher and Whippet Charity Dog Show.

Abertj Titterington Money Sponsorship
Maurice Mc Dowell Money Sponsorship
John & Margaret Mc Stay Money Sponsorship
Tom Barry Trophys and Dog Meal
Dessie Mackin 50 Bottles of wine
Lesley Dumigan & Glen Doherty, Childrens Handling Class

Everybody that brought very generous prizes for the Raffle, your generosity and kindness knew no bounds. Many Thanks to all.

And Finally, Finally, I cannot forget the person who came up with the idea for this Charity show. Yes it was Mickey Quinn himself, and Mickey certainly carried this show to the heights of success.

Behind every great man is the magnificent six. Tom Barry/ Michael Quinn/Maurice Mc Dowell/Dessie Mackin/ Patsy Mc Coy/ Nigel Quinn. It is with your help and input that this show was such a success.

Also many thanks to Clive Richardson, the owner of Annaghmore Race Track. Without you this show would not of been possible. Mickey Quinn would like to thank you for giving the venue for our Charity Show, and because of your kindness, the Macmillan Cancer Nurses received a cheque for £1,200.

A great day was had by all at Annaghmore, and I am already looking forward to another Charity Dog show in 2016.

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
